My colleague @amandafrost.bsky.social is excellent on this panel about birthright citizenship. Her response on what sources to read to understand the issue (at ~1:14) β as compared to the other answers given β is notable. @uvalaw.bsky.social

At least 11 congressmen from 1865-1871 were arguably not citizens under Trump's interpretation of 14th A, our research finds. Yet no one challenged their eligibility to serve. Why not? Obviously, b/c no one who drafted or ratified the 14th A shared Trump's view.

Thank you!
We should never go back to a system that made collective judgments about the worthiness of specific nationalities to immigrate to the United States β particularly not based on an incident involving a single person.
Well said @amandafrost.bsky.social

Thank you!
I was happy that this reporter actually gave me time to explain the devastating consequences of eliminating birthright citizenship (for everyone, not just for immigrants).

Thank you. And sad Trump actually followed through on the threat.
Thank you, though sad this is all becoming so relevant yet again.
Your last book is now required reading too.
