On the very first day of school, when he sat at his desk waiting to be handed his pen and paper, his teacher walked right by him, and once every other child had received their stationery, she opened the door, gesturing him out with a sweep of her arm. “There you go, Ajax. You can run a few laps while the others learn their letters. Have fun now!” Ajax stared at his empty desk, rubbing the wood with the rabbit eraser his Mother gave him as a starting school present. “Can’t I learn my letters too?”
