Oh, good point though.
Another tragic example of how Trumpβs indiscriminate immigration raids are targeting the most vulnerable among us, including the family of a deaf child seeking asylum.
The cruelty is astounding.
Will do all I can to try to reverse this. www.latimes.com/california/s...

Yes, agreed. It's a muddle.
My first thought was "There's milk in potato chips?" But it turns out that whey, a milk-processing byproduct, is used in flavored potato chips as a binding agent and to enhance taste and smell. Who knew?
Yes, vaccines π can have adverse side effects, tho these are much lower than the risks of the diseases they protect against
What we tend to overlook is that vaccines can also have beneficial side effects, which can be surprisingly large π§ͺ

Thank you much.
Thank you, seriously.
My long-time editor at Penguin Press died this week and I can't let her go without telling you how remarkable - talented, tough, generous, kind - she was and how much she'll be missed. And how lucky I was to work with her. (gift article) @penguinpress.bsky.social
The US NSF has put out a "dear colleagues" letter that is essentially a yard sale list for @ncar-ucar.bsky.social
It asks questions such as, who'd like to take over some of NCAR's programs? Is anyone interested in commercial use of the Mesa Lab?
If you have thoughts, send them to NSF_NCAR@nsf.gov
A whistleblower just disclosed that FBI experts were delayed by AT LEAST A DAY in deploying to investigate Charlie Kirkβs assassination.
Why?
There was an FBI plane and pilot shortage⦠because Kash Patel was using them for personal flights.
Just shameful.
This is interesting.
The US women's national hockey team declinedTrump's invite to the White House after winning Olympic gold. Trump was heard joking that he'd have to invite the women with the men's team or else he'd be impeached. thehockeynews.com/womens/inter...
Aliya Rahman, woman who was dragged out of car by ICE in Minneapolis: "I've spent the last month learning the names of the tendons in my shoulder, because both of my shoulders are torn -- cartilage and tendons. But what I haven't learned is the names of the people who did this to me."
According to an NPR investigation, the DOJ failed to release documents relating to interviews the FBI conducted in 2019 with a woman who accused Trump of sexually assaulting her as a child.
Only the first interview, is available to the public and she doesnβt mention Trump at all. trib.al/BU8zkFp
FLAG:Β Trump-related files are missing from DOJ's Epstein release.
There's at least one witness for whom three 2019 FBI interviews are missing.
That woman is the same person who, in a 2025 FBI presentation, is identified to have accused Trump of a sexual assault when she was between 13 and 15.
Henceforth, I will be describing the way that U.S. menβs hockey spectacularly squandered good will, brand recognition, and fan loyalty as βpulled a Target.β
They pulled a Target.
What's more shocking than ICE's plan to cram as many 8,500 humans into massive, soul-crushing warehouses?
Seeing the actual DHS floor plan that echoes slavery ships and history's worst gulags with no rec space but a gun range for guards

Maternal mortality in Louisiana is literally 40x Greenland (41.9/100k to 1.0/100k). They should send hospital boat to Louisiana.
The last part abt how measles disrupts immunity vs other infections is, imo, underappreciated (& mechanism was recently clarified). It's part of why measles vaccination was seen to help beyond just reducing measles complications - not getting measles reduces severity of subsequent infections too.
The political effects of X's feed algorithm https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-026-10098-2 Received: 16 December 2024 Accepted: 4 January 2026 Published online: 18 February 2026 Open access β’ Check for updates Germain Gauthier,5, Roland Hodler?5, Philine Widmer35 & Ekaterina Zhuravskaya3,4,5 m Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects. Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.
A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitterβs algorithmic feed significantly shifts peopleβs political views to the right.
Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.
This is one of the most concerning papers Iβve read in awhile.
