Political donations ensure that interests of the super-rich are writ large in govt policies.
Capital gains & dividends are taxed at lower marginal rates than wages. No NIC is levied.
Income of private equity bosses taxed as capital gains.
Bribery pays but normal people can't play the game.
And 3/2! we need to build more but there's a whack situation in rural areas (maybe in urban too, idk) that the onus is being placed on volunteer groups to build housing while existing stock disappears exponentially faster for extractive profit. That's the problem- not humans living in their homes!
Yeah there are older people living here alone (potentially lonely) because the younger generations of their family can't afford to- but here the scarcity of housing is absolutely an illusion. We have plenty of houses- it's just there's been a political choice not to regulate what happens to them 2/2
Within my rural community council area, with its roughly 280 resident households, non existent private rental market and utterly unaffordable-to-local wages purchase market, there are approx 200 houses not in use as homes. 1/2
