"Failures of Kindness"
Read the full transcript of the speech "Failures of Kindness" by George Saunders.
"Failures of Kindness"
"Do all the other things, the ambitious things- travel, get rich, get famous, innovate, lead, fall in love, make and lose fortunes, swim naked in wild jungle rivers – but as you do, to the extent that you can, err in the direction of kindness".

The philosopher who warned us about loneliness and totalitarianism
Revisiting Hannah Arendt’s ideas about social isolation and mass resentment.
The philosopher who warned us about loneliness and totalitarianism
"What makes loneliness so unbearable is the loss of one’s own self, which can be realized in solitude, but confirmed in its identity only by the trusting and trustworthy company of my equals.”

Jared Cooney Horvath, a neuroscientist and education specialist, said “the modern hype” of generative AI had led edtech to “plug that word into every aspect of their products — even when, or especially when, it doesn’t belong”.
“Edtech companies are largely composed of engineers, businesspeople and economists,” he said. “Very rarely will you see a practising teacher or educator anywhere in the mix. Their failure to meaningfully impact education is [because] they do not understand the field they are trying to evolve.”

"...but at the moment it feels like everything is a target, and the internet is less a machine that devours corruption and more a machine that devours trust. Trust in each other, trust in society, in institutions, in expertise, in tradition, in our ability to do democracy."

A whimsical nighttime illustration of a small village with glowing houses surrounding a circular pool of water. The houses, simple and cozy with illuminated interiors, are scattered among neatly arranged pathways and fences. A person with a box-like head is seen sitting at the edge of the pool, dipping their feet into the reflective water. The background features silhouetted trees under a cloudy, star-speckled sky, creating a serene and dreamlike ambiance. Warm lighting from the houses contrasts beautifully with the cool tones of the night, adding depth and charm to the peaceful scene.
