Literally the only reason to do that, to priotizie civilian casualties over strategic objectives, is if the only real goal is just to kill brown people to satisfy your racist hate boner

And so easy too, for a good submissive to just slip into that state for the words of a hypnotist

And so they continue on to this day, monsters in human guise,feasting until their schemes unravel and a stake is finally put to their hearts.

And so the feasts continued. Emboldened ever further by the ease with which they avoided consequences. These former noble vampries, now poltical and cult leaders, sought ever greater misery to dine upon.

And the large scale justice? From the masses of humans? Humans were little more than cattle, easily herded. Misdirected and turned against each other. A shiny distraction here, a culture war there. They would never unite in a meaningful way.

And even when their depravity was exposed from time to time. They were vampires. Silencing someone and making it look like a suicide was as simple as meeting up with them and making eye contact. Not the original purpose of vampiric charm, but it worked.

It was easy to cover up, makeup and spray tans, cosmetic surgeries and fancy clothes. Sure people noticed, made fun of them online, but vampires had long faded into myth. Nobody would ever suspect the truth.

They'd influence world events to fill the air with the constant low buzz of misery and anxiety, like the scent of a barbeque grill wafting through the air all around them. They grew fat on it, their health declined as no amount of positive energy could ever balance out the negativity they guzzled

They used their powers and accumulated wealth to weasel into positions of political power. Using their wealth to throw lavish parties for other rich humans to feast on their positive energy, while at the same time engaging in depraved acts to gorge themselves on negative energy.

Of course, just because vampires need both positive and negative energy to be healthy, it didn't mean all of them abandoned their predatory ways. The oldest and richest vampires, who in ancient times treated human hunting as more sport than survival. They adapted too.

Perhaps that night shift guard who seems to have been at your company forever seems remarkably fit for his age. "I just eat healthy is all, get lots of sleep in a good bed every day" he says, his emphasis on the word 'day' seems odd but he was always a bit of an odd one

Maybe you find you zone out a bit aorund them as if in a trance. "are you ok? you must be coming down with something, go get some rest" your helpful pale skinned friend says, sending you off in a happy daze.

Now a vampire is barely distinguishable from a normal human, save for minute differences. Perhaps their incisors are a little pointier than most, bad dental hygine they say.

Without the burden of feeding, positive energy became freely available. Vampires, now properly fed, could fully blend into society. They still got sunburnt easier than most, but that was easily waved off. Plenty of pale-skinned people got burnt easily. Most of the other side effects faded too.

So vampires evolved, learned to extract energy directly without the need for violence. Learned to do it subtly, to feed just a little on people all around them so that no one person ever felt the drain unless fed on extensively.

Side effects like not showing up in mirrors and that pesky sunlight vulnerability persisted, even if they could visibly blend into society again and feed much more freely

Of course this was a half-measure, they still had positive energy in such short supply because no matter how many spells you wove over a mind, the illusion always crumbled eventually.
