my only notes to people under 30: your 30s aren't for ditching fandom, they're for re-evaluating all the "cringe" stuff you liked as a teenager through the lens of someone who can appreciate it fully, going, "that owned, actually," and becoming even more unhinged about it. please look forward to it.
With awards season ramping up, I'm once again compiling a 2025 "Best of" list of works by FFers for your readings lists. So far, it contains work on the BSFA Longlist and recommendations made in Locus, Reactor, and Charles Payseur's Quick Sips.

i do not want the state to have the authority to kill people! not random mothers driving by! not people the state thinks look like they could commit crimes! not people who we think probably did commit crimes! not people who definitely, absolutely committed crimes! no one!!!
THREAD: Some "state-of-the-mag" updates for Fusion Fragment now that 2025 is in the books. And don't worry--no negative news to share! Just wanted to share for the sake of transparency, celebrate, and get the table all set for 2026!

GUIDELINES (Please read carefully) NOTE: I receive over 2,000 submissions per call. Only writers whose work is selected for the volume will receive a response. Thanks for understanding. This is a reprint fiction anthology, to be published later this year, 2026. I am seeking material first published last year, in 2025. To be clear, only weird fiction FIRST published in 2025 is eligible for inclusion in this volume. I will accept translated work as long as the first English-language publication was 2025. To repeatβthis volume is for stories originally first published in 2025. We are not accepting previously unpublished stories, or stories published prior to 2025 in any form. Stories between 500 and 17,499 words are considered. Please check with your publisher if you are uncertain about the reprint rights to your work. Stories created with or assisted by Generative AI, in any way, are ineligible and will not be considered. Audio only stories are also ineligible, unless they also appeared as text. Writers can send in their work using the form below only. Do not e-mail your story. You can send up to three (3) stories, but each must be sent separately. Ensure your byline and e-mail address are on the manuscript. NOTE: The submission form does not like any strange charactersβasterisks, parenthesis, hashtags, etc.βin the form fields. Please use text and numbers only. Deadline for all material is February 28. Payment is a small $25 U.S. honorarium and 1 copy each of the print and electronic editions.
Writers! Vol. 2 of 'The Best Weird Fiction of the Year' is open to your submissions. Please adhere to the guidelines.

1 Like = 1 Tip for getting published in FF (2025 stories edition)
I've got the day off work, so time to bring back an old favourite, this time using lessons learned from all the great stuff we published in 2025. Let's do this.
Dr. @chesyaburke.bsky.social and I are editing an anthology surveying the evolution of Black literary horror. Tentatively titled Black Horror, Then & Next: We Have Always Dreamed in Darkness (FlameTree Press), here are the guidelinesβ¦

It's time for the story of the week! Give a read to "Songs Never Sung" by @premeemohamed.com in Issue 46 of @3lobedmag.com. So much broken world and endless years delivered in the few words of a decaying yet deathless protagonist. It's what your weekend needs π€

I'm very disappointed in SFWA's soft stance on LLM and the Nebulas. Any use of LLM, disclosed or not, should not be awards eligible. It's plagiarism and crap, period
I will finish my novella π€
Also want to shoot for 5 short story pubs this year π€π»

Iβm planning a column about women and games next year. I want to discuss how stories about women are told/received in games, and how does womensβ criticism exist- where/what is it? If you are a woman game writer/dev/critic and would like to share your thoughts, dm or email eaprice.work@gmail.com !

Our story of the week: "Hope is the Thing with Circuits and Steel" by Elitsa Dermendzhiyska from FFO. The story is weird and ripe with warnings for humanity. Grannies. Consumption. A question probing the nature of emotion acquisition. Give it a read @flashfictiononline.bsky.social.
short horror / weird fiction is one of the best things on this planet
