Thank you. I find it quite difficult in general to describe places, so I don't have many such descriptions tbh. (I need to work on this.)

Although Sam had never set foot in the London Chapter’s monastery, its very atmosphere reminded her at once of the dozen others she had known throughout her life.
It wasn’t even the architecture, the old stones, the heavy wooden doors, the cloisters and chapels, the patina of countless hands and knees on prayer benches, like some of those she had lived at back on the Continent. This one, in fact, was of a more modern kind, set in a three-storey Georgian town house on Percy Street whose lack of heirs led, at some point, to its being sold, and to the Order getting its hands on it. White walls inside, red brick outside, sash windows and narrow entrance door, and even a pithy welcome mat in the corridor—all surrounded with the hustle and bustle of retail, office blocks, and, when no lockdown was in effect, clods of tourists from the nearby Tottenham Court Road, now reduced to a trickle of locals and, overall, people from England mostly. The house itself stood almost too inconspicuous compared to its neighbours whose ground floors, most often than not, had long ago been converted to retail use. Few locals really paid attention to it, and even less knew what it stood for.

I had even forgotten I called that a Chapter!

Dan quirked an eyebrow: ‘Whatever way you prefer. Shall I torch down that compound? Send an army of solicitors to boot them out of that property? Siphon their bank accounts? Have their Settled status revoked, then send them back packing to the mainland? I could go and kill each of them personally, if that helps. Though I like the idea of the Solicitors’ Army.’
Magda stared at him. And stared. He stared back, his expression blank and cold: again, that controlled lid tightly screwed over his boiling anger, that anger she saw lurking in his eyes, in a brief flash, before he blinked it away. The same anger as earlier, when she had confessed her worries about his friends and their possible association with—
Oh, the horror. So that was what he thought!
‘No—no! They’re not… Dan, they’re not all like him. I really, really don’t think so! Most of the Children are good people—they believe, they’re… they just want a better life. But they’re innocent! I’m sure if they knew what he has in mind, they wouldn’t stay! You can’t… You can’t kill them!’

I'm probably laying it thick in these few chapters, tbh. But it was very cathartic to write for sure!

The truth behind the "synonyms" part: I was actually looking for synonyms re: flesh etc, and found some very nonsensical answers along the way. So I exorcised my synonym-induced trauma through writing 😂

I can only have the one and I admit I bought her (no joke, it's actually difficult to adopt cats from shelters here: the shelters have so many demands such as you must have a garden... which I don't, so the CDS doesn't pick me easily...).
Anyway, my naked chicken and I are very happy together 😂

Oh no, not yet. I need to let it rest a little first, and then I can do my first round of edits and excise as much dead weight as I can 😅

Magda pointed at the pulsating mass—towards the faint, almost invisible darker line coursing from its midsection down towards where the misshapen organ met its supporting beams. Trunks. Veins. At that point, Sam’s brain had stopped supplying her with helpful synonyms. After a few seconds of squinting to try and make out why exactly the girl thought that mattered, the faint fear lurking in her guts crystallised into certainty: not just a line, but a furrow, a seam that could come undone if given the slightest push.
Which meant crossing the rotten field of flesh separating them from the thumping monstrosity.

For the first time since she had met the girl, the Hunter saw it at last: the flame, the silent strength dormant in that heart, crushed for years under the baleful gaze of an overbearing father, and now unfurled into the most beautiful weapon, its ethereal blade shining like the purest diamond. It didn’t matter that Magda’s hands shook as she reaffirmed her hold on the long haft, or that she stood so small compared to the massive glob of flesh suspended above their heads: right here, right now, this child was the heir, the only true heir of a long, forgotten lineage that was always meant to fight for good, not for evil.
Sören Albrecht had become an incarnation of evil, according to Samuel Willard; but his daughter was made of a whole other cloth.

Monsters. Perhaps that word applied to Magda as well, all things considered. The more she spoke of Sören Albrecht here, the further away her memories of him as an actual father seemed to drift. When was the last time he had had a kind word for her? Taught her, instead of blaming her? Had he ever played with her when she was younger? Try as she might, she could only remember the other children and the women, never any men attending such activities; she wasn’t even sure there had even been real playtime—only school, chores, prayers, ceremonies, and more toiling. More of being told what role she had to fulfill to become a perfect wife and mother later on.
This time, the Hunter cast her a glance, half quizzical, half judgmental. ‘You don’t seem to care about him that much.’
‘He wasn’t a good father.’
She wasn’t sure if her voice had betrayed all her bitterness, all the loneliness suddenly carving out a cold, frozen den in her chest. Sam let out a relutcant grunt, and didn’t pursue that line of conversation.

Not sure if it's the same red forest though (mine is an actual place, though it's not "red" anymore nowadays afaik).

It's part of what makes me over-explain things to "the reader", and then that means I have a ton of stuff to excise out of the manuscript (that I could just have NOT put in in the first place!).
But it's also part of my process of developing characters and plot, so it's useful too!

Today, I thought of the Red Forest for the first time in a long, long while.
The last time we went our separate ways. Not because circumstances forced us, not because we both agreed, but because I was being childish and letting my stupid hubris get the best of me. I’m actually surprised that didn’t happen sooner, to be honest.
I think… This is the one time where I came closest to destroying you.
Don’t you even dare try and find excuses for me. What you did then—your errance, your wanderings, that stupid, desperate search for… for them…—you’d never have done that if I had been by your side.
I know how shrewd you are. The only times you make really stupid mistakes, is when you’re in such despair you can’t think straight anymore.

For once it's actually not even something that bad😅 They're like a hippies, "back to nature" cult with some hippie flavouring at first; the regular members are fine if a bit loopy, it's their leadership that's rotten. (That part, of course, will keep infecting the rest later if left untreated...)
