I just want to say, well done everyone.
While there is first order benefit to running an accurate simulation of the world, the second order benefit is that accuracy allows us to find agreement. This makes our mental simulations a partially shared experience.
But this is okay because we do the same. What we think of as existence is, in fact, a simulation ... running on meat rather than silicon. But a simulation, nonetheless.
So, I am pretty sure that almost everyone misunderstands the significance of LLM hallucinations. The truth is, *every* part of an LLM's output is a hallucination. It's just that the earlier portions that seemed informed and which agreed with reality, were just that, an accurate hallucination.
