It's fine. In practice during a race any changes in digits other then the seconds and tenths are basically random noise. Could maybe be improved by changing the colour of a number if the driver has overtake though that's not super accessible.

Looking forward to the Chinese ratings where Piastri's score is ๐Ÿช… and Ocon is replaced with a fish.

Not sure if this is a ranking or a dadaist critique of the idea of rating driver performance, tbh. I'm just not up enough on postmondernist reductionism to understand how retiring after ten laps with progressive engine failure is equivalent to recovering to where you should have qualified, etc

Yes and you've made it quite clear that you've failed to understand what's going on

I mean by the time the interval has been recorded at the mini-sector timing line, been processed by the timing kit and then sent to broadcast it will have changed if it's being shown in ms...

The precision does not exist. A gap measured in thousandths in a race situation will be wrong by the time it can be broadcast.

Sounds kinda like the changes to LMP3 which is a very Ligier series....

It always surprises me that less aero more power is supposed to be easier for Am drivers, I suppose it's more like a road car but aero keeps cars on track. But they're not the only ones who think like that assuming I'm remembering Doriane's comparison of the Ferrari 488 Challenge/GT3/GTE correctly.

Also like half the problems with the ruleset could have been avoided by allowed the battery to be at least partially charged at race start.

I think it's weird they didn't spec a supercapacitor rather than a battery for a hybrid designed to be charged and discharged multiple times per lap.

Ligier GT2 homologation isn't the natural path for anything, please stop trying to help a formula that really needs to die.

Last Saturday of the month. This has definitely never caused me to miss an IndyCar race.

I feel whoever came up with that name is trying too hard to be serious given Fred Vasseur called it the macarena wing on video.

(though looking at Zandvoort's calendar, I'd guess a plausible day would be May 10th, so maybe I'd also want to buy another coat....)

09.03.2026 20:33 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'd probably go, or at least try to, if it happened at Zandvoort. Not really that difficult to get to from anywhere in Europe (for me, 4hr Eurostar to Amsterdam and then you're 20 mins train and 10 mins walk from the track). Not the best track but the racing's usually OK anywhere in F2/F3.

09.03.2026 20:25 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think this is a good idea (very quick translation: there's some talking about a standalone F2/F3 round at Zandvoort if Bahrain and Jeddah are cancelled, according to Spanish media) though I feel like there's a lot of questions about money to answer before it happens....

I imagine it will also have in common with the straight at St. Pete Having Far Too Many Flags Next To It.

09.03.2026 19:35 ๐Ÿ‘ 6 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah, I agree with that. I think that's actually why T1 is bad in the general sense, in that it reminds me of T14 at Barcelona, probably fast enough to string cars out and diminish the possibility of a pass into T2 as the straight likely isn't long enough to slipstream effectively.

Google maps distance masure of the runway at St. Pete, showing a distance of 687.32m (which is definitely spurious precision, Web Mercator is not that accurate a projection).

OK, maybe more like 50 metres. Not a huge amount either way.

So while I do think this is an awful track, I do feel it's worth pointing out that 0.4 miles is around 640 metres, which is to say this straight's only about 40 metres shorter than the one at St. Petersburg depending precisely on how the rounding works on that.

The track should do a good job of celebrating one of the most important features of America in its 250th year, namely getting stuck in traffic.

tbf half the time it seems to be Sergio Perez

There were races in the refuelling era which were close to being this and....yeah, they were incredibly boring. Basically "can driver x under/overcut driver y, because we all know they're not getting past on track".

09.03.2026 15:04 ๐Ÿ‘ 7 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

wait this is a new concern for you?

09.03.2026 14:54 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah, I mean it's clear that it was very difficult to overtake (defining an overtake as a move which gains a position on a reasonably permanent basis) without a tyre offset, but that's kinda always true in Australia unless it rains?

09.03.2026 14:53 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It was extremely difficult to actually pass in Australia, but then it always is, so that didn't tell us very much.

09.03.2026 14:49 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm in the latter and I thought it was super interesting. I also didn't think an overtake actually happened at the start. An overtake is a permanent change of position. Russell did not get past Leclerc.

(he also got a five place grid drop for the next feature race, which will be either Bahrain or Monaco depending on *gestures at world*)

I have genuinely no idea who that sponsor is as none of the companies I can find called BMG have that logo.
