i feel like if i was tasked with not starting a war and bringing back US manufacturing jobs, i could have done a better job than this
this scene looks still so fucking good, by the way
Meme of Darth Vader saying "The partition table has been altered. Pray I don't alter it any further."
Currently building custom NixOS images for my Raspberry Pi and whenever this message pops up in the build process I have to think about this one Star Wars scene
Thing about at least 50 percent of ultranationalist states is that oftentimes they have legitimate historical grievances of some sort (the other 50 percent are just violently racist and imperialist, without the grievances)
Burning (non-fascist) books should be punishable by death.
Plenty of traditional artists suck/sucked at digital media. I'm sure the talent fluency carryover is even less inherent with LLM based natural language tools.
Predecessors said talent would be knowing how to mix paint or shade in a particular value with right graphite, rather than just be able to play with numbers in an app. Some people RIGHT NOW say typing without being able to do cursive makes you a worse and less creative writer. Just feels reactionary
Also, I dunno if you've used Photoshop or Illustrator lately, but the machine has been able to do it for you in re quite a few operations for quite some time now. Which, again, was a critique of digital art until it achieved some normativity.
Sure, but that begs the question. What you get out of typing in a few prompt sentences is Tilly Norwood. Talent would have to involve much more precise, deliberate, and creative use of the tools.
I'm old enough to remember people saying digital art is for people who don't have the talent for traditional media. Whether or not you think traditional media require more talent, I don't think you could say today that nobody with talent makes digital art. This feels analogous.
You know, I think psychologically we underappreciate how unusual and tantalizing it is for reactionaries to find themselves in a moment where championing a regressive status quo is countercultural and transgressive rather than boring and workaday. It's two tastes that taste great together
Tapping the sign that says βalmost nothing is the Third Reich but a lot of things are the Second Reichβ
Ah yes, the Empire of Rainbow-Cake Diarrhea
Absolutely ghastly, tacky stuff. But I do think y'all are coping if you watch this and don't see the potential for someone who comes into the process with actual talent
This is a war where we should be rooting for the ruin of every political regime involved--MAGA, Bibi, the Ayatollahs, the slaving Gulf kleptokakistocracies.
Wild just how impossible it is to remain an orthodox Christian when fully engaged with contemporary scholarship. The books are faked, everyone wrongly expected the world to end in the first century, they loved slavery and hated sex, they lied about being persecuted, killed their own apostles, etc.
Commander Bonaparte teaching the lesson like no other, for the past 31 years
even non-sapient animals, on finding pools of water where fallen fruits have fermented, get drunk when they have the chance. left to its own devices the world is a cruel killdozer and it requires active intention to force things otherwise
OTD in 1938 the Austrian Anschluss. A dictator sent his army over the border & later had illegal referendum with rigged result that violated numerous treaties. The West expressed only βconcernβ which turned out not to be enough to prevent warβ¦.
Imagine that happening today.
I'm sure tons of iranians, maybe even most, loathe the regime and want them to fall. but a smaller number are willing to go try to take power armed with, basically, nothing, in the middle of an air campaign I imagine
its in the hidden 13th volume of HOME that also contains Tolkien's doujin drawings of fingon and maedhros fucking on top of the silmarils
OTOH, we have dramatically increased the amount of intellectual labor someone can accomplish with new computer assistant software.
OTOH, someone might get sad about it.
Yes.
The demise of Christianity-as-Judaism is mostly due to the Romano-Jewish Wars and in particular the refusal of the Christians in Jerusalem to support Bar Kochba
TBH, I feel like the surviving descriptions of the evangelists are anachronistic retrojections backchanneling Paul and the itinerant apostles of the Didache era as a quality that was pioneered by the Twelve (almost all of whom by all evidence probably never left Judea)
Attributions appear abruptly in the mid 100s and seem mostly to have evolved within context of varied sects claiming apostolic authority after central authority collapsed with the final fall of Jerusalem in 135CE. (Attribution process begins earlier but doesn't describe the texts we have today.)
I've heard Ehrman explicitly say it is not a very strong criterion because we lack typically lack confident knowledge of what would have been considered an embarrassment sufficient to warrant potential exclusion or redaction.
