I really enjoyed my time at the movies with this one.
I really enjoyed my time at the movies with this one.
I haven't seen that one since it was in theatres, but it definitely would apply.
*High Fives*
I can't wait to pick up the new Criterion release. You know, when it isn't $70 Canadian...
π
Hell ya. I already had it because my dad was a gamer and bought it probably at Costco.
Ahhh the good old days.
Iβm old enough to remember that old ratings system, and remember that Duke 3D has a little teeny bit of nudity on it and that made it *cool*
Using the sad occasion of yet another SCTV cast member death to ask:
Where's the SCTV reunion documentary, Marty?
I hate to say it but I miss Twitter.
Not, like, the shitty parts. The fun parts. Where Iβd find out about a cool video. Or start a thread with a stranger about the way Peter Jackson upscaled his Beatles documentary. Or when a Hollywood filmmaker would DM me to tell me to watch Carrie.
I miss that.
I've never seen the Hellboys, but really like PAN and saw PACIFIC RIM in IMAX way back when (at least I *think* it was IMAX) and it was a fun ride.
GDT isn't exactly "one of my guys", but I'll tell you this: he's one of the nicest human beings I've ever met throughout my career.
I still havenβt got around to it (that runtime is a big ask for a parent) but with all the Oscar nods I feel like I may have to tryβ¦
If this goes thru it will accelerate Hollywoodβs precipitous decline. Thousands laid off. Creatives w/fewer studios willing to bid on projects. Fewer choices of what to watch for consumers. Possibly a death blow for theatrical filmgoing. Just terrible news all around

Now that #FreakierFriday is on Disney+, felt like a good time to re-share my review of the film. The Lohan-aissance is upon us, and I'm all for it!

Itβs only a problem if you feel the need to respect continuity. Which the Bond Franchise absolutely DOES NOT need to do, and in fact, is what got them into this mess to begin with and was the biggest mistake the Craig era made.
I mean, with the rise of indies and the easy ability to distribute (read: steam) this isnβt SUPER surprising.
The real question is quality v. quantity. How many of these releases are actually worth playing?
Never seen Friedkinβs JADE and am on a bit of a Friedkin kick soβ¦
Do I go theatrical (generally how I prefer to watch a film for the first time) or Directorβs Cut (which always tends to be just more βstuffβ but for a movie like this might actually restore censored material? I dunno?)
Just finished watching IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS for the first time.
Kind of insane that I live like 12 minutes away from Hobb's End (aka Unionville Main Street) and literally no one around here talks about the fact that fucking John Carpenter shot a movie here.
Seeing as most trilogies have ultimately ended up being anything but (thanks to poorly advised lega-sequles) what would you consider to be the best true trilogy?
For me, it's either DARK KNIGHT or BACK TO THE FUTURE.
Hit me with your hot takes!
So glad we had you on the show Norm!
It's always fun to get obsessive with @adamschoales.bsky.social, so I was delighted to guest on this very special episode of his SPRINGFIELD GOOGOLPLEX podcast and discuss my apparently undying connection to the original I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. Some other stuff comes up too. Enjoy!
My latest Letterboxd list:
*FCU - The Flea Cinematic Universe*
Movies where inexplicably Flea turns up in some sort of minor role and prompts me to go "Is that... is that Flea?" and then whip out IMDB and go, "Yup, that was Flea!"

Kind of a shame (OG) Top Gear is no longer around because the stuff those editors could have done with Zimmerβs F1 score?
GAHDAMN!
Well I finally did it. I caved. I did the thing I said I would never do.
I bought a pair of Crocs.
(But they're Simpsons Crocs because you gotta stay on brand)
I love a clever witticism as much as the next guy, if not more. But I can honestly say the extremely long pee gag in AUSTIN POWERS is *maybe* the funniest thing ever committed to film.

(Sorry for the awful frame interpolation, it's the only clip of the scene I could find)
@gruber.foo I sent this via email but know social is sometimes better, but thought you would dig this update of the HAL 9000 project.

I love how the 35mm version of Jurassic Park looks. It actually helps with the special effects not look as outdated. This is the ideal way to watch any movie - in the wrong aspect ratio and with the boom mic visible
