I am a chartered civil engineer and a PhD student at UCD. I live in Dublin. I enjoy brewing beer, reading books, playing old video games, and watching old sitcoms. I wish I was on a train.

Today I needed to get some work done so I went completely offline. Phone in a different room. Laptop not on the WiFi. CDs instead streaming music.
Got some work done but mostly really appreciating my old CD collection, really came through for me.

Reminds me of being 18, unsure of Dublin geography and I hopped on the 118 thinking it was an 11B.

A postcard of the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise from the 1970s showing four views. The outside, the Glendine glass annex, the β€œWild Turkey” nightclub and the reception desk.

Been looking for someone new to support this year since Herta moved on, and I’m married to a Norwegian so I think I’ve found my guy!

Helping my daughter with her homework and thanks to having to spell the word β€œpower” I am now singing the themesong to He Man at the top of my voice. She is not impressed. Kids these days.

I remember it being the highest form of insult when I was in primary school. Panicked at the idea of it being applied to me.

Since the day I discovered maple syrup, a pancake topped with jam or the whole jif lemon/sugar combo has not passed my lips.

On this day on my 44th birthday I am reflecting on this time 15 years ago when I finally achieved one of my life ambitions and made it on the @doublezcreative.bsky.social birthday roller, when Zig and Zag had a 2fm show.

The missing bridge in my collection between the reissues and original issues.

My pb is from that time my friends and I decided to do the Dublin marathon without training when we were 19. 6 hours 24mins!

Wow you could have done another lap and still not reached my Dublin Marathon 2001 time.

Another day off spent writing my thesis. That word count really isn’t increasing quickly enough.

And I was enjoying this series too, 50% were houses locted within a 2km radius of my gaff!

The balloon itself was famous not the character.

Once in 1993 we were going shopping and saw a balloon of a giant tied to the ground outside Crazy Prices in Portlaoise. My parents got all excited like they’d seen a celebrity, telling me β€œyou don’t get it, that’s the actual Gulliver!”.
I’ve reached the age where I finally understand them

I guess if I have to explain my joke I failed in my attempt at being funny.

I meant it in the sense of using ChatGPT making it feel like you were being social, without having to go to the bother of actually talking to a person!

You could try complaining about life to ChatGPT and have it validate every petty gripe?

Had one of those mornings where I woke up feeling relaxed and then suddenly everything came flooding back and I thought β€œah Jaysus no, it’s 2026”

Hard disagree. Have had this discussion with my Norwegian wife many times. But I’ll keep eating lots of both to check if my taste ever recalibrates.

Anyone else have it hammered into them as a teen that when directory enquires says β€œwould you like me to connect you” the only acceptable answer was β€œabsolutely not”.
