It really was cool! My friend's mom, Collins's sister, came to collect for the March of Dimes a few days before the takeoff. Mom asked if she was excited for the flight, and she said "I can't even think about it – I'm scared to death for them".

The nephew of the command module pilot on Apollo 11, Michael Collins, was a neighbor/friend and in my third grade class. He brought all kinds of NASA memorabilia to show and tell after that flight! #AT40

Feb 1973 was a trying time for me- recovering from surgery to remove xtra bones in my feet. But I was a minor celeb in the hospital when I got a pkg from the White House (cousin worked for Nixon- the "other" side of the family 😁) These songs are bringing all those memories back today #AT40
