@drl

As a child drl's mother told him he could be anything when he grew up so they promised to grow up to be somebody. In the end, both should have been more specific. https://drl.fyi || https://soundcloud.com/it-was-drl

read through a trans lens, take it ieasy by the eagles is about a closeted trans woman sex worker (she was standing on a corner in winslow arizona, has 4 women who want to own her [trans women love taking each other as pets] and 2 that want to "stone" her [trans women love getting high])

Also β€œis there some volume I could yell that would force a manager with the power to give me a different answer to talk to me? I’m not going to yell either way, but if that person exists can you go get them and put in a good word for me?” Has come in _clutch_ just… so many times.

just now this exact moment realizing what terrifying brand of stupid the average modern, Raised On The Internet soldiers must be

like it took multiple officers yelling (at me) to get a guy on my team to stop saying β€œKick em in the nards, sir” instead of β€œyield not, sir” when he saluted *20* yrs ago

I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of the phrase β€œis there some level of charming I could be that would get me some kind of upgrade & if so can we just pretend that I’m that charming?”

TBF, this worked better before inflation made it functionally impossible for an hourly worker to find me charming

IANATheorist but I’m p sure separating the art from the artist is more β€œletting those who consume art express what it means to _them_” & less β€œexcusing talented-but-awful ppl (at any scale)”

Eg: you can say β€œGarak & Bashir definitely fucked & if either actor says otherwise they are dead to me.”

Even if you’re held to the fine print in your contract and do 4yrs instead of 3, you still have 4 more years of service owed when you get out. So that group of ppl, the ones not in the military, but still in their 8 year window, they are the IRR. They get β€œdrafted” which is to say recalled second.

08.03.2026 23:40 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

context: all (males under 34[?]) in the US owe 8yrs of service; this doesn’t change if you enlist voluntarily
So the first ppl who get β€œdrafted” are already in the military. Your contract might be for 3 years (like mine was) but then 9/11 happened the day before I graduated basic so 4 yrs it was
BUT

Frustrating part of the standard is for VA disability is that’s it’s more β€œi am traumatized by the year i spent getting shot at” and less β€œI am traumatized by spending a year pointing weapons at children while feeling invincible like only a 20yr old can & when I tell ppl about it they thank me”

I’m 40 something; living to 80 would be a statistical stretch so let’s say 75 & unless I take Really Good Care of myself -which I won’t- the last ~5 years are probably gonna suck regardless

Anyway, yes I think that qualifies my current crisis as β€œMid Life”

If you see this post your black and white art but hopefully something you can easily add alt text to because frankly I’m not sure I did a great job here.

Have you seen T2?
I only saw it once, but my Very Specific Memory/Review is that it was so much better than it had any right to be and I sobbed through a non-trivial portion of it. (For context tho, I also sobbed through Matrix Resurrection so maybe legacy sequels just fuck me up)

I searched β€œcelebrity” in my camera roll and the latest result is from 2018.

The runner up is a picture of Bob Newhart.

How are so many of you saving so many pictures???

Anyway…um…here it is.

Sunzal, by Coasta 5 track album

lore drop: I did not go to school with Jesse of Brand New fame, but I was in the same grade as his little brother, Jamie; who -bee tea dubs- put out exactly one (1) sick EP that I am aware of with a band called Coasta

With 20+ years of hindsight I am finally coming to accept that I am no longer Team Jesse _just_ because of…well…you know…but also because Taking Back Sunday was really fucking good and I made my choice largely out of hyper specific NYC suburb regional loyalty.

So. This is growing up.

Do you think it’s easy to get Zima in the US in the universe where Gore was president?

lemme tell you -at the risk of doxxing my own reddit account- that the (now locked) comments on /r/JustGalsBeingChicks has some of the most "I'm not mad, I just think it's interesting..." / drunk uncle ranting at passover / Men Writing Paragraphs Online energy I've seen since the Bear Discourse

One of my clearest memories of the Army was watching the 3rd Matrix movie and someone yelling β€œhurry up and die so we can leave” while in the middle of a ~month long, Division Scale War Game Op, in the dead of winter, in Germany where our one break was leaving The Box to go to the on-post movies

> 15 years ago a human could beat a computer at chess & now we don't have a chance!

Yeah but after the match the human can go ponder a sunset on the drive home or pet a dog or sit quietly in a room with someone they love or re-read A Tree Grows In Brooklyn & the chess computer goes back in a closet

goddamnit. this is almost certainly the seed that over the next few weeks grows into the notion "you know what, maybe I _should_ watch Cloud Atlas again" and that is the the flower I want growing in my garden.

Ok, so googling has let me know that apparently you cannot swim in a pile of gold coins Scrooge McDuck style, but has anyone tried building an apparatus that would vibrate the vault of gold coins until they start to liquify, like how sand does?

Wild how the opening crawl for Event Horizon (1997) -a movie I saw in theaters when I was 14- says the first permanent colony on the moon was established in 2015

imagine trying to convince a 14 year old today that we're ~15 years from lunar colonies. you simply cannot
