Reluctant as I am to compare Mr Trump to a fine feline, what we see here is basically a cat that has climbed a tree, is sitting at the end of a branch, and while it wishes to assure you it is 100% certain of its ability to get down, feels it would be prudent to call the fire brigade at this point.

Yes, voters are generally smart enough to figure things out (if only from the volume of leaflets and mountain of signs)

Going to be honest, this doesn’t feel like it meets the criteria for “Breaking News”, does it?

It’s somewhat acceptable at something like the district council level if neither party has enough candidates for a full slate. If you’re going to be missing candidates *anyway*, might as well spread them sensibly

Unless the chips are just really long, you’ll throw off the surface area to volume ratio too much. Not enough crunchy fried outside to soft fluffy inside (and you’ll struggle to get all that steam out from the deep core)

Five cut-out-and-keep bookplates

Each reads ‘ex-libris’ then has a space for the owners name. The design reflects the genre:

 Sci-fi:
Nanotechnology tracks the book, monitors its condition and summons a retrieval drone if necessary.

 Horror:
An ancient curse creates feelings of unease, rising to apalling, abject horror unless the book is returned.

 Romance :
Acts as an invite to the county's grandest ball, but revoked if not returned in a polite and timely manner.

 Crime:
Tailed by a dishevelled Gumshoe who Seems cynical, but loves books more than dames and bourbon.

 Fantasy:
A fellowship of heroes lead the borrower on an epic quest to return the tome to its Rightful shelf.

A case study in the surrealist practice of press releases citing “government sources”. If it’s in a Treasury statement with a logo on the top then the source is you.

NHS surcharge is an illuminating example of a policy that has been designed to meet public concerns about migration impacts. Hiking it from £200 to > £1000 means the NHS is v likely making a surplus (esp on students). I doubt many people have heard of it

My brain, sometime around 4am:
“Le Tigre, who came to tea”
Me: “shut up”
Brain: “it could be an NME article. 20 years ago”
Me: “shut up”
Brain: “they could interview them at a tea shop”
Me: “shut up”
Brain: “what’s French for ‘came to tea’, they could do the whole headline in French”
Me: “Shut up”

DOOM fully rendered in CSS. Every surface is a <div> that has a background image, with a clipping path with 3D transforms applied. Of course CSS does not have a movable camera, so we rotate and translate the scene around the user.

Not enough attention being paid to how fucking stupid it is to issue ultimatums to the Iranian leadership while simultaneously waging an existential war of extermination against the aforementioned leadership that is completely uncorrelated to whether or not they accept those terms.

Outside by-elections, neither party has the resources to mount a strong fight for every seat, I would imagine there will be a lot of places where one or other puts in only a token effort

a tangentially related thing here that i find funny is the number of SV pricks who idolize "real work" (labor, industrial work, etc.) and are profoundly contemptuous of, like, "HR" or "DEI" or "training" or whatever, because they have no idea of how much the latter is involved in that kind of work

(It's a collectable coin, but as it's also legal tender, it requires an order from the King to the Mint to make it)

a heuristic that rarely steers me wrong is that any time you find a world that valorizes 1) youth, 2) forswearing sleep, family, friendship 3) total commitment in the face of long odds, there is somebody to whom none of those conditions apply exploiting the hell out of that situation
