Lore wise, there’s not much i can really argue given how inconsistent it is between films, but he was a purple satellite in the second movie
although i am a bit biased, as i really like how he looks in Transformers Prime, which was also a radically different take in terms of design
really it’s more of a character design nitpick, i mean his g1 design wasn’t really all that intimidating, although the blue i feel would make him stand out againast all the other silver sports car characters

lore wise tho, it’s strange thats he’s grey in Dark of the moon, given that he was purple in the previous movie (he’s transformed into an alien sattelite in this image)

The main reason is that since his inception, he’s been depicted as a blue deception with a mask and red visor, it’s one of the most recognizable parts of his design
somewhat related, i feel like soundwaves‘ design could’ve been improved if they just made him blue and his his visor be more prevalent

Like these dudes can’t even cover up a train derailment in a moderately populated city in rural ohio, there is no way they can hide tank as conspicuous as this turning into a heavily armed robot and blowing up a small business in a highly populated city
