Close-up of a Serotine bat perched on a person’s fingertip under warm indoor light. The small bat has dense chestnut-brown fur, a dark face, glossy black eyes, and upright rounded ears. Its tiny claws grip the finger while one leathery wing is partly spread. This grounded male was found in Szczecin, Poland, on 14 March 2026. Serotine bats are medium-sized European bats that often roost in buildings and feed on night-flying insects such as moths and beetles, typically emerging shortly after sunset. 🦇 This one is suspected to have woken from hibernation before insects were available. He’s gone to a rescue where he’ll be rehabilitated and then returned to the rescue site for release.

Today is one of those days when I think there are no coincidences … Was heading to the shops when I met our neighbour who’d left some bulbs for us to plant so I turned back to show her how they were growing. As we were looking, OH noticed something moving on the ground … It was a BAT! 🦇 1/3 #bats

A male Little Brown Bat hangs upside down from a storm window screen. His name is Theodore and he’s been coming to this window for over a year and a half. This will be his second spring and summer with us.
