新理論優雅破解宇宙最極端能量微中子起源!可能是原初黑洞爆炸 * * 2023 年,KM3NeT 實驗偵測到一個能量比大型強子對撞機(LHC)高 10 萬倍的微中子撞擊地球,但宇宙沒有任何已知來源可催生這股能量——除了已故物理學家史蒂芬·霍金 1970 年代預測的原初黑洞。 微中子(Neutrino)又稱幽靈粒子,質量非常微小,不參與強交互作用和電磁交互作用,當你伸出手掌面向太陽,每秒就有數百兆個微中子穿過你的指尖但無所覺,就算躲在地底深處,微中子依然會穿透你的身體而不互動。 在地球附近檢測到的微中子大多源自太陽,少數高能量微中子源自宇宙事件,但 2023 年,位於地中海深處的 KM3NeT 探測器偵測到一個有史以來最極端的微中子——被命名為 KM3-230213A,以約 220 PeV 能量撞擊 KM3NeT 實驗探測器,比大型強子對撞機可產生的極限能量還高 100,000 倍,也是首次證實宇宙真存在如此高能量的微中子。 對天體物理學家來說,這道「鐵證」完全無法依據現有事實解釋,因為目前還沒有已知天體物理源可以發射具特定能量的微中子,直到最近,麻薩諸塞大學阿默斯特分校物理學家團隊提出一個優雅來源:不是宇宙射線或垂死恆星,而是宇宙創世之初就誕生且存在至今的原初黑洞。 與大質量恆星塌縮形成的恆星黑洞不同,原初黑洞(PBH)質量不一定非常大,甚至可能跟原子核一樣小。 史蒂芬·霍金 1974 年提出黑洞不會永遠存在,而會因事件視界附近的量子效應慢慢「蒸散」、洩漏粒子至太空,最終完全消失,這種現象被稱為霍金輻射,霍金還提出較小黑洞輻射量通常比正常黑洞大,所以前者縮小消失速度也比後者還快。 隨著原初黑洞透過霍金輻射效應緩慢發射粒子,它們變得越來越輕、越來越熱,逐漸失控直到爆炸。 有人會問若原初黑洞爆炸是極高能宇宙微中子來源,那麼位於南極洲的冰立方天文台(IceCube)規模更大,應該早偵測到類似事件,為何從來沒有?研究人員對此意識到問題不在探測器,而在我們對原初黑洞的假設。 根據團隊提出的「暗電荷」模型,好比普通物質具電磁性,暗物質可能具獨特「暗電磁性」,受「暗對稱性」控制,隨著原初黑洞蒸發縮小,暗電荷密度急劇上升,最終黑洞達到電斥力與引力平衡的準極端(quasi-extremal)狀態。 ### 原初黑洞爆炸或可解釋一切現象 進入該狀態的原初黑洞基本上暫停蒸發,直到表面暗電場積累強烈到撕裂時空、產生暗電子對,稱為暗施溫格效應(dark Schwinger effect)。一旦該效應啟動,黑洞會迅速放電並爆炸,團隊計算出此特定類型爆炸會抑制黑洞發射 1 PeV 能量範圍的微中子(IceCube 最敏感的探測範圍),但大量釋出 100 PeV 能量範圍的微中子。 這項假設也強調原初黑洞可能構成宇宙所有暗物質,它們一生多數時間都處於休眠、準極端狀態,因此隱藏在陰影中不發出背景光,直到最後時刻才暴力輸出,包括已知粒子(如電子、夸克、希格斯玻色子)和假設粒子(如暗物質粒子)。 帶暗電荷的原初黑洞具獨特性質,行為方式不同於其他簡單原初黑洞模型,如果該團隊理論正確,那麼我們現正處於充滿微小帶電原初黑洞的宇宙中,這些黑洞偶爾像鞭炮一樣爆炸;這也是科學家驗證霍金輻射、獲取原初黑洞和標準模型之外新粒子證據的重要舞台,有助解釋暗物質之謎。 新論文發表在《物理評論快報》(Physical Review Letters )。 * Did We Just See a Black Hole Explode?
