Best hole on the course.
Birdie from up on high.
One of the rarest vistas in Toronto Disc golf. The 11th tee at Dentonia, only available from today to Sunday.

A beautiful planted disc
A little sideways but still upright.
The snow has almost melted... that can mean only one thing.
Its tombstone season!

Famed hole 3 at Dentonia.
A March sunset over the Dentonia Disc Golf Course..
Clear skies and warm weather, today was a good day

She spent some 10min trying to move this log.
If there is one thing I admire about the dog, its her unadulterated commitment to her own personal "bigger stick" policy.
She will always dream beyond her own capacities. Luckily this driftwood was too heavy to carry home.

What a beautiful day to lose some discs.
This a good winter day.

Standing on top of a hill looking south at the eventual outflow into Highland Creek.
The opening of the ponds outflow at the Highland Creek.
Finally we reach the end of this short meander.
Standing on top of the slight hill thru witch the outflow pipe flows under into the Highland Creek.
Thanks for joining in on this short #RavineRamble
That's it for today.

The dammed outflow of the pond
Outflow of the pond.
This pond drains out into the West Highland Creek. It is dammed at its southern end as can be seen in pics below.

Looking south across the pond
Looking east across the pond.
Finally we reach the 2nd pond, the bigger of the two ponds.
It too is forzen over, but also like all Toronto ponds, it too has its danger signs clearly posted.

Trees, some of them quiet old line the former banks.
The former creek is home to a new tree.
On its was south to the 2nd pond, the big one, the banks are lined by older trees.
Trees possibly leftover from when this meander was still a part of the creek.

Reeds and ice give away the creeks former course
Even in deep snow the reeds guide the way
The reeds like the creek mark a sharp turn south
The creek bed flows eastward before marking a sharp turn south towards the current West Highland Creek alignment.
The entire area is populated with Cat Tail reeds. It is impressive that no invasive Phragmites has taken hold here.

Two willows on either bank mark the confluence of two bodies of water
A small creek emerges from under the snow from the north of the meander
Two water channels meet.
As the meander bends eastward, Willow trees again mark water.
This time a confluence of the meander with another smaller creek.
The water here flows freely.
#LoveTheRavines #RavineRambler #HighlandCreek #parksTO #EastCoatKin
Skirting the edge of the pond, a distinct outline of reeds can be seen growing around the creek.
The 1st pond is the smaller of the two. And like all ponds in the city its accompanied with a Danger sign.
As we trek further north, we approach the 1st of the two ponds that occupy the former creek bed.
From now on cat tail reeds mark the course of the creek, making it easier to follow.

First signs of the former creek appear from below the deep snow.
Water carving its way thru a shallow depression below the snow.
Obvious signs of fresh flowing water.
About 10-15 feet east of the willow tree, first signs of the creek emerge.
Flowing ground water forming a channel under the snow. The water here is flowing steadily under all the white stuff.

Looking north along the former path of the West Highland Creek. Nothing is to be seen of its old course.
A willow stands near fhe former banks of the creek.
Looking north from creek, little evidence of any meander can be seen.
But a distant willow tree give clues to ground water.

Former golf course bridge over the rerouted creek channel. The bridge is now fenced off and off limits, its not seen use since the 1970s when the golf club was sold to the city and the south part of the property was sold off.
Time to get to the creek itself.
@metroscapes.ca & I have discussed the terrible naming convention around her.
I believe this is the West branch of West Highland Creek.
Starting north of the creek east of the abandoned bridge.

If you're curious to where this is exactly, see map below to Tam O'Shanter Golf course.
Do note in the previous posts photos the course changes of the creek over the years.

2020 - Recent aerial view of the sight with the U shaped meander left in the golf course. Note the two ponds now exist the area, fed by ground water and a possible small creek originating north of here.
1977 - Around this time the West Highland Creek was rerouted and channeled from it's previous course, which was also a series of channels that appear to be done for farming. In Red can be seen the new rerouting of the creek.
1965- At this time the meander was still a part of the West Highland Creek and it van be seen taking a sharp turn north, most of this seems to all been dug and straightened at some point in time. Few natural curves in the river flow.
1939 - earliest aerial photos of the area, all of this is farm land. The meander can be seen in yellow. Still lots of straight lines. The creek had been channeled in some way for over a hundred years.
Time for another #RavineRamble.
This time a short little jaunt to see a former part of West Highland Creek. One of the few pieces of the original riverbed left north of Highway 401, located in a golf course
Come and join along

Painting dated to Sept 1998 and credited to a John Hyslop.
The silo as it currently sits in Ron Watson Park directly south of Tam O'Shanter golf course
There lies a rural relic in Aginxourt neighborhood of Scarborough.
An old silo sitting in Ron Watson Park. Today I stumbled on a painting of a farm that included the silo.
This is the only depiction (no photos) Ive encountered of this structure in this state

Sunset at 6 PM over Stan Wadlow Park. Park is snow covered with walking paths carved in the snow I several directions. A tree, tall park lights, and lit dark houses visible beyond the park. A high rise is visible on the far right.
Foggy day sunset at 6 PM.

Rather simple, but also cleaver design consisting of mirrors. Certainly a place for some photo creativity.

Somewhere in that soupy fog lie the Winter Stations.
The Winter stations are officially up at Woodbine beach
This has become an annual winter tradition to wander about & see what ideas they've come up with.
Except today fog rolled in making it hard to see much of anything
But we'll try anyway

But at least the walls makes for an artistic space for local graffiti partitioners.
Less public utility and more of a public mural.
And with that we'll end this #RavineRamble.
Thanks for coming along.

Broken door.
Broken toilet.
One of the doors has been broken open allowing us a view inside...
I can't imagine how many decades this place has say idle.
