I keep thinking of them as "small", but I would hate to meet the giant bee they would fit.

Tried again, this time using a silk thread to couch the metallic thread. It's much smoother and sleek looking. I plan on wrapping the outer cotton thread in the same silk too.

I dunno. I tried a metallic thread + it feels bulky. Maybe if I had only used the metallic as the couched thread + something flatter for the thread holding it in place...

It might be too matchy to the organza, too. Bee wing details seem to be more red/brown.

I can't tell if my headache is from the intricate sewing or the fact I'm running a low grade fever. I want to use silk over the cotton embroidery thread to create a puffed vein feel... But that might not be realistic to bee wings...

So because I am a creature mage, my vest is going to have critter associations in a lot of places, so for “Air” I’m adding a Luna moth with the dandelions. For as much as I put #embroidery on 3D things, this is my first foray into actual #stumpwork which has been an interesting experience.

Played with more bones the other day for this stumpwork butterfly and added some beads to the bird. I think the beads really add to both.

Received an absolutely gorgeous book on #stumpwork #embroidery. The mixed media artist in me adores everything about taking something flat and adding dimension and shiny bits to create something new.
