I dunno if it's just me, but it seems harder and harder to justify getting whole pizzas from the smaller businesses when Pizza 73 is selling 18 inch ones at $20 + tax/delivery/tip. #fumofumo #fumoposting #ふもふも #yyceats #calgaryeats #豊聡耳神子

Non-official fumo plush of Aya Shameimaru as she appears in Mountain of Faith sitting in front of a breakfast skillet with pulled beef, barbecue sauce, hollandaise, and two poached eggs.

My thoughts on the dish:

While they got a decent amount of pulled beef on it, and that it was lightly seasoned (though not to the point of being underseasoned), they definitely skimped out on the cheese curds. The sauce they used on the potatoes was a good balance of sweet, tangy, and thick, and the potatoes themselves were also given a good amount of salt, pepper and I think lime?

Either way, the overall experience was positive, though breakfast restaurants can cost you an arm and a leg, and should really only be visited if you've got errands, and you wanna have something you can't feasibly make at home

Fumo plush of Rumia from Touhou Project with the Gastro Chicken Club sandwich from The Tommyfield Gastropub.

My thoughts on the sammich:

Considering the size and irregular shape of the patty, it's pretty clear to me that they hand-breaded and deep-fried a wholeass chicken breast. It was hella filling and full of flavour, though the fact that they deep-fried a wholeass chicken breast resulted in it being overcooked, and the pretzel bun was hella dense. Fries were lightly seasoned, though I didn't feel like I needed to use ketchup on them.

Fumo plush of Aya Shameimaru from Touhou Project sitting in front of a bowl of Phnom Penh Rice Noodle Soup, purchased for $10 + tax, albeit with a smaller portion size on account of being part of a lunch special

My thoughts on the soup:

The broth is pretty damn good, and I really like the addition of ground pork, as it doubled as both a meat item and seasoning for the soup. Shrimp is shrimp, and shrimp is good, though the deboned pork hock is a little tough. It ain't too bad, cuz sometimes, you want something to chew on. The won tons are the standard Chinese pork won tons, so if you've had some variation of a won ton soup from a restaurant, you already know what those taste like.

My only real complaint about the soup is the use of quail eggs, which really bulk up the price of the soup. Sure, the whites are tougher while you still get a decently soft yolk, though I think I prefer the whites of chicken eggs, and there's a lot more egg for a lot less money.

The Aya fumo with the bowl of soup from the first pic, but shot with the Sony Alpha 5100.

My thoughts on the camera:

I'm probably not the best person to comment on this, since I've been surviving on an AliExpress camera for about 16 months, and any sort of name brand camera with 20 or more megapixels would already be an upgrade. I think the issues I'll have with taking fumo pics with the professional camera will be more of me using a cheap lens and less about the camera body itself.

35mm is a bit more zoomed in than i'd like, which forces me to move three paces bacck from the subject I want to photograph. Another issue is that it's admittedly difficult to keep my arms still while shooting at a low shutter speed, which can make taking the right pic difficult. On top of this, the Temu lens being manual focus means that there will be some imprecision with the lens focus due to human error.

Even with these issues in mind, it's pretty clear that the Sony camera spanks the hell out of taking pics with a rugged phone.

Fumo plush of Reimu Hakurei (PC-98) sitting in front of a beef burger with the standard veg and a mayonnaise-based dressing

My thoughts on the burg:

It's admittedly not without its flaws. While the patty is indeed larger than the standard fast food burger, the bun seems a bit oversized. To go back to the patty, it's lightly salted, but cooked to perfection. With the right amount of dressing, the burger would've been great, but they welt a bit overboard with the dressing.

Even when considering that having cheese in it is an extra 50 cents, I think I would rather pay that extra amount of money than pay a sizeable amount more for a similar burger at other places.

The original fumo plush of Cirno from Touhou Project sitting in front of an ice cream cup containing a mix of Milk+ (their version of vanilla) and a chocolate banana soft serve, topped with fried coconut shavings

My thoughts on the dessert:

I'll admit that I would have enjoyed this a lot more if it were the chocolate banana ice cream by itself, though the coconut bits add a welcome texture variation. When eating both the vanilla and chocolate ice cream together, I find that the chocolate flavour really ends up getting lost in the vanilla.

It's definitely not the vanilla/chocolate soft serve from the 90s, but it was still an enjoyable experience.

Bootleg fumo of Reimu Hakurei sitting in front of the Korean BBQ pork sub.

My thoughts on it

While the pork seasoning meshes well with the cucumbers, cilantro, and carrots, It definitely feels undetstuffed. This sub is less a sub and more a baguette with a side of meat and veggies. I don't even know how the inside got soggy either, but the wetter part of the bread was at least delicious.

Bootleg Fumo plush of Sakuya Izayoi with a plate of Vietnamese rice vermicelli with a chunk of lemongrass chicken, shrimps, and one pork spring roll

Thoughts on the dish:

I don't doubt that the vermicelli dishes I've had in the past were larger than this, but it's pretty clear to me that there's much more food per dollar than what you'd find in most restaurants.

The chicken is decently seasoned, though it is admittedly a little overcooked. The shrimps are cooked to perfection, thankfully, and the pork spring roll is sufficiently flavourful.

My only gripe I have is the blandness of the noodles, though this is a common issue with every form of Vietnamese rice vermicelli. Thankfully, you don't need too much fish sauce to correct this

Purchased from Thai Thien Sub, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Fumo plush of Toyosatomimi no Miko with imitation crab futomaki. Contains cucumbers, tamago, and pickled carrots and radish on top of the advertised protein

My thoughts on it, since I already bought the two half rolls prior:

Admittedly, I was hoping to find the $6 rolls, since the spicy beef is always an enjoyable companion to have with the crab. From my past experience of having these a few times, it's apparent to me that this is supposed to fill a similar niche to the takeout sandwiches you find in most grocery chains, though I find that the filling to rice ratio is far more favourable than a Safeway hoagie's filling to bread ratio

While I'm more used to the $6 futomaki that is half an imitation crab roll and half a spicy beef roll, I think I should report that a full "crab" roll is a dollar less, and also likely cheaper than a basic bitch ham n' cheese

Rin Kaenbyou with a slice of pizza

My thoughts on it:

I'll admit that I had a more positive experience the first time around. The chicken veggie pizza probably would've been a better purchase had I visited an hour earlier than I did. The cheese became a crust in of itself, and the chicken was dried up. I think this suggests that the folks in the Sunridge area find Chicken Veggie to be an unpopular flavour, and thus is the least fresh pizza. Seems like the slices themselves are cut more thinly too compared to other locations

Purchased from Royal Canadian Pizza (Sunridge location), Calgary, AB, Canada

Fumo plush of Rin Kaenbyou sitting in front of a bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup with rare beef slices. Purchased from Pho Daddy, Calgary Beltline, Alberta, Canada

My thoughts on the bowl:

I'll admit that I've seen similar serving sizes for worse prices, but I've also seen much better at just a half-dollar more. I have been scrolling through different menus on Google Maps and this seemed to be the second cheapest place for a bowl of pho, cuz the cheapest has the most inconvenient hours ever.

When given the opportunity to sample different types of broth, I didn't really taste much difference between the regular (pictured above) and premium broth, so i went with the cheaper option, knowing that the regular one boiled their bones for a shorter amount of time and has some powdered soup stock thrown in to make up for the shorter boil time.

If i'm to look purely at the size of the bowl, I'd say that it has the right amount of noodles and vegetables added, though I can't help but think that they could've added a bit more meat to the bowl. Nonetheless, it still had a good amount of flavour to it

Ultimately, pho just ends up being one of those things that I rarely ever get due to the price difference between it and a banh mi. Vietnamese sub sandwiches often feel like they have more food per dollar unless you're buying from Mot To, Lai Rai, or the Calgary Stampede

Unless you're specifically craving pho, I'd recommend eating other forms of cuisine if you have business in Downtown Calgary.

Downtown #calgary seems to not be a very good neighborhood for eating pho. With that said, Pho Daddy seems to be the least bad option, cuz this bowl has set me back by $14.50 + tax. Thoughts on the bowl in alt text

Fumo plush of Cirno from Touhou Project sitting next to Thi Thi's sate rib banh mi sub

My thoughts on the sandwich:

I'll admit that when I was watching the sub get assembled, I was slightly underwhelmed with the contents of the sandwich. Couldn't tell if it was shrinkflated from 2023 or not, but once the sandwich was fully assembled, i ended up feeling that the sub had a good balance bwtween meat, veg, and cheese, though I was a bit timid about having hot peppers in it. Whatever they use for "hot" sauce, ain't really all that hot at all

For a $10 sandwich, it is still a lot more value for money than most places when buying lunch, though it can be hard to justify going to Thi Thi specifically over other banh mi places. I can only recommend going there if you absolutely want that hyperspecific mix of reconstituted pork patty and whatever that weird ketchup-y barbecue sauce flavour that the McRib had going for it.

Fumo plush of Suwako Moriya from Touhou Project sitting next to a Philly Cheesesteak with fries, as well as a Mug Root Beer.

While the sandwich itself is surprisingly dense in meat n' cheese despite its diminutive appearance, the meat was definitely underseasoned, instead overrelying on the cheese along with what little onions the sandwich has inside it. I am also questioning whether I even want to go back there, since even for what my peers at the restaurant assumed looked like a 3D render, something about the menu cover felt uncanny. I'm probably gonna drop a proper review on Google Maps

Fumo plush doll of Hina Kagiyama from Touhou Project sitting next to a beef banh mi filled with cilantro, pickled carrots, and pickled radish

My thoughts on the sub:

I'll admit that $12 is a bit steep for an asking price, though I can kinda see why they price a little higher than other places. For starters, the bread, while it has a bit of a crust, is much softer and more doughy compared to the overcooked and probably stale loaves used by other restaurants. On top of this, they added a peanut satay sauce that gives some texture variety to the sub. Despite being advertised as spicy, i didn't taste much spice at all.
