Distribution of Atelocynus microtis and Cerdocyon thous in Colombia. A. Records of A. microtis (circles) and C. thous (diamonds) in Colombia. New localities in the Department of Amazonas, and Cauca and Putumayo are shown with an oval form. B. Polygons showing possible overlaps in the distribution of the species in cis-Andean Colombia. Extent of Occurrence (EOO) for both species.
Although it may seem simple, documenting these interactions is essential. For elusive and understudied species, every confirmed detection strengthens our understanding of distribution, ecology, and conservation needs.
I’m happy to share a new paper in which I contributed. In this study, we present new occurrence data documenting the coexistence between one of the most common canids in the region and one of the most rarely detected species — even in long-term camera-trap studies — the Short-eared Dog. #SCmas
Minimum convex polygon for (A) Atelocynus microtis and (B) Cerdocyon thous in Colombia, based on all the occurrences recorded in this study. Circles indicate new records.
Although it may seem simple, documenting these interactions is essential. For elusive and understudied species, every confirmed detection strengthens our understanding of distribution, ecology, and conservation needs.
All videos from our #LivingData2025 conference with @geobon.org, @gbif.org, and @obis.org are now public! It was an amazing conference in Bogota, Colombia, thanks to our hosts at Instituto Humboldt. www.youtube.com/@LivingData2...
New paper and blog post by the one and only @crcruzr.bsky.social - are socio-ecological indicators ready to provide guidance for concrete biodiversity action?
epic-biodiversity.org/blog/2026/01...
The answer is: partially, but there are all sorts of interesting lessons for the future. 🧪🌎
All carnivore models — and many other exciting species — can be explored here:

At the launch of the new chapter of the Atlas of Mammals of Colombia 🌿📚, together with Helena Olaya, Felipe Suarez and Angélica Díaz. Honoured to have contributed as an author, mapping Colombia’s carnivores!
A new chapter of the Atlas of Colombia was released a month ago, such an exciting milestone! I had the privilege of contributing as an author, joining other researchers in developing updated distribution maps for Colombia’s carnivores 🐾.

Climate change may dramatically increase the range of raccoons and skunks in Québec. Good news? Nope. They are two reservoirs of the raccoon rabies virus. In a recent preprint, we discuss how this might play out over the next 80 years. 🧪🧵
👋 Bonjour hi!
We've built a whole new website, and @ctrlalttim.com has thoughts about the long-term dynamics of research groups to share.
epic-biodiversity.org/blog/2025/11...
The next challenge is to better understand how public institutions implement these actions and to explore how this knowledge makes research more useful and inclusive.

Some key things I found:
1️⃣ The jointly designed indicators show a stronger policy link.
2️⃣ Socioecological studies underrepresent some dimension of biodiversity.
3️⃣ Effective biodiversity policy requires aligning expert-driven analysis with broad stakeholder participation.

Today I presented at #LivingData2025 / #DatosVivos2025.
My research explores how people conducting socioecological studies use indicators and how those indicators are taken up in public policy.

#LivingData #DatosLivos is starting three days, and the lab (and friends) will be well represented. Here are some presentations you simply can't miss. 🧪🌎
On Oct 21, @crcruzr.bsky.social will tell you everything about socio-ecological indicators and what they don't yet do well.

Excited to have been part of the developer team! 🐾 Beyond providing access to the List of Mammals of Colombia, it helps map species records and validate coordinates against administrative boundaries. Looking forward to feedback & future updates!
