Significant Weather Event declared: Please exercise caution when using City sidewalks, roads and the winter cycling network. Freezing rain will make surfaces icy and could lead to power outages. Please prepare accordingly and avoid unnecessary travel.

With significant freezing rain forecast for Wednesday, preparations are underway to keep transit operating safely for customers and staff and to ensure transit service can recover quickly when the storm ends.
Across the O-Train network, our maintainers, Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) and TransitNext, are deploying resources to respond to this severe weather. Maintenance staff will be focused on limiting ice buildup on station and track infrastructure, such as switches, platforms, and high-traffic pedestrian areas.

During this weather event, Line 1 will operate every four to five minutes during the morning peak period. The number of trains in operation may be adjusted to help mitigate ice buildup on the overhead wires and tracks. This frequency will also allow for flexibility should additional adjustments be required. RTM has applied de-icing fluid to the overhead wires to help reduce ice buildup and will be running trains with special pantographs to help scrape ice off the wires as the vehicles pass by.

O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will operate as regularly scheduled. TransitNext has deployed additional resources to monitor switches and keep platforms and train doors clear of ice.

Bus and Para Transpo services will continue to operate. Road conditions may impact traffic across the city and, as a result, it is possible customers may experience longer travel times. Some trips will be removed from the schedule to maintain priority trips. Customers who have to travel should use real-time travel tools, like the Transit app, to plan their trip in advance.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Ottawa

Freezing rain is expected to begin overnight and continue into Wednesday. Ice buildup on trees & power lines can lead to potential power outages. Our crews are on standby and ready to respond safely and as quickly as possible.

It's astounding to see the success of Γ€VΓ©lo! They started with only 10 stations and 100 bikes downtown in 2021. Just 5 years later and now reaching into suburban communities (and I think Nadia lost a digit it looks like 225 stations in 2026!).

In a technical briefing, Environment Canada says the track of the system is still unclear but the Ottawa Valley appears most at risk for prolonged freezing rain.

A couple of residents reported bad-smelling stormwater ponds. This is a natural issue caused by low dissolved oxygen in the water. The recent rainfall will help increase oxygen levels and reduce the smell. Several stormwater ponds across the City are experiencing the same conditions right now.

Over the past few years, I’ve had more and more conversations with members of Ottawa’s cricket community. The message has been clear. The sport is growing quickly, and we simply don’t have enough places to play. We’re going to fix that.

OC Transpo has been releasing weekly data about bus fleet availability. Here are the latest numbers based on today's update. More electric buses (now up to 56) + working through maintenance backlogs = more buses available for service. Target is at least 520 buses and <0.5% trips undelivered.
