I don't think so. There were the Army Cadets and RAF Cadets, maybe even RN Cadets that I got support. I was Treasurer of a local Scout Group. We got no direct support unless it was at national level. We didn't see it. Self supporting!

My son was also in the Scouts. His idea of fun was sleeping outdoors in a survival bag in sub-zero temperatures. He got over it, mostly. He still goes climbing, cycling stuff like that. Got a good job, wife, 2 kids. So no harm done 😆

Maybe different in the US. I was a Scout in the UK. Two different Scoutmasters. Not military at all. But we learnt all sorts of useful things from camping to working in teams. And we had a lot of fun!!
