I have a lot of time for Tomoki Misato, since his short film days and the original Molcar series he gets these simple but visually striking concepts that he can turn into something fun or, if he wants, with a lot to say, while using genuinely-fresh and unusual stop-motion materials

It’s refreshing

Now that it is my birthday today I get to spend it… working, because I have a lot coming up this week and next and can’t really take the day off today

Yesterday a friend took me to a strawberry afternoon tea as a pre-birthday thing together which was so sweet and so good

(We then went to a concert that had the complete opposite vibe but was also fun)

Take me back to the Dagashi bar I went to with friends as a pre-birthday night where they had the best katsu and unlimited free sweets and snacks

Thing is I see some English speaking fans rejoicing that it ‘worked’ while JP fans are glad to see it but mostly annoyed at how people were uploading and going against what was said to happen

At a time some are getting sick of how tourists act and international ppl at these events it’s not great

To update there are now plans to officially release it (which probably honestly saves some of the people who uploaded but won’t change how the company may move in future)

I do wonder if it was always planned like this says but they hardly had a choice

I think it links to a whole other side of anime fandom and modern fandom broadly where there’s a certain ‘right to consume’, rather than engage as equals and show that mutual respect

Which you see in celebratory glee that the leak happened

Which I think speaks to a problem in modern fandom broadly

Not giving a view on whether the Evangelion short should have been gatekept, or the whole chain of events that led to the HQ leaks

But the attitude around the original recording, and the reaction to it now leaking? It speaks to a problem I have with how people engage with media today

Perhaps they could’ve anticipated, made plans to allow it to be released, ensured no phones were there, streamed it like other stage events at the show

But at the end of the day, the selfish act is gonna have consequences for everyone else

And I’d not rule out potential legal cases

More personally, with the original phone recording, it’s not like the event didn’t have photo areas to commemorate the show, and I hate how people feel they need to or, worse, have a right to recording everything because they paid

It’s selfish, especially if told otherwise

It’s a mess on all sides

Why make accommodations to make an event accessible internationally if you’re just gonna have those people ignore your boundaries? A lot of future events will not do something like this or invite international people to participate in future because of this

Anime’s global growth makes companies interested, but the idea of creating something just for the event stems from the legal contracts made for people participating, the intent, the celebration, custom etc

The impact of this will just see a lot of JP companies retreat back

The thing with this event is that they went above and beyond making sure international people could attend the show, more than most JP events, and the people who did simply disrespected that

You can argue whether they should’ve had that rule and kept this exclusive, but that’s another conversation

I’ve been following the situation with the leaked Evangelion 30th Anniversary footage, and it’s just a mess on all sides

khara messed up with how they handled takedowns, but also, a lot of primarily international people ignored rules of the event that are standard for JP events

Pretty sure every day I choose to wear a skirt the wind is 10-15mph stronger than it says and usually is >.<

And I say that liking the songs and the musical, and thus this movie too, on its whole. Act 2 is rough and as much as this fixes parts, it is what it is

New songs… Elpheba’s is good, Glinda’s not so much. Both not really needed. Love the way they did Wonderful, so much, possibly best of both movies

Being in Japan means only now seeing this film that released yesterday

Wicked Part 2 is fascinating because it does fix a good number of the problems with the second act of the stage play! It’s still the second act of the stage play, though, and some of that can’t be fixed
