After Charlie Kirk was killed everyone repeated the mantra that we ought not to work out our differences through violence. Brendan Carr's attempt to transform media into government propaganda machines echoes other authoritarian calls that might cause some to question that premise.
Conservative religious groups were instumental in building anti abortion support that ultimately gave us Dobbs. I would very much like to know if any or which of these groups support these intrustions into the bodies of pregnant women and if so why.
The urge to confront stupidity like this with even greater stupidity is almost overwhelming. But that urge must be resisted.
The Mormons were forced to give up polygamy because that practice conflicted with U.S. law. But in general secular and relgious law have gotten along quite comfortably in the United States. There is no reason the country can't accomdate Sharia law as long as it stays within secular law boundaries.
Most relgions have customs regarded as law by their adherents with penalties restriced to ostracism by those who do not comply. Ex. A divorced Catholic may not have a subsequent marriage recognized by the Church.
and there is dispute as to which Hadith are genuine. My understanding is that those extreme interpretation of Sharia law that would conflict with federal or state are not generally accepted. In any case no one is talking about Islamic religious law overriding U.S. law.
In another example of inappropriate sectarianism I'm reading about new instances of politicians inveighing against Sharia law. Sharia law is a complicated subject and is based on the Koran and the Hadith of the prophet. There are multiple schoos of Sharia jurisprudence
