Rendering the clockwork gears in the automaton desk definitely took the longest.
Lots of thin layers of pencil to get that shine the way I wanted it.

I'm laying down very light layers of Mars violet, salmon and fossil grey, softly overlapping them to give the colors and contrasts a gauzy, hazy look.
No real pressure being put into the application. Just letting the weight of the pencils work into one another.
This is how far away my face is when I’m rendering.
I want to see the grain of the part and how each color is laying down and mixing.
Up close it looks a little messy, but when you pull back, it comes together and all those effects make sense.

Turned 32 today, and all I've done is cook breakfast for myself and my twin (we hung out all day yesterday), washed a couple loads of clothes and sleep. Now, I'm heading out to pick up dinner. Very low-key day, yet I'm satisfied.

It's dark and satirical and wonderful.
Saw Wicked: For Good. Loved it! My main critique is the rough pacing in parts, though no surprise by any means given the source material. The performances, however, were everything I needed. Cynthia and Ariana did that! Jonathan, my man! Can't wait to see it again so that I can properly dissect.

Finished ELPHIE. Now back to where I left off on WICKED (1995). Hopefully from there, I'll finally read the rest of the Wicked Years series.
As for film/TV, leaning towards checking out TIN MAN (2007) and THE WIZ (1978) next.
Every time I say this, I get some type of backlash, but to be a good writer, you have to be a good reader. Yes, read your niche, but read widely too. I read poetry, horror, graphic novels, picture books, and non-fiction, too. It's only made my writing better.

Not sure which version of Oz I'll head to next. For now, I'm going back to the Wicked (literary) realm with ELPHIE (2025). I do have a list of other Oz-related books/shows/films I want to check out soon, but suggestions are welcome.
Moved on to EMERALD CITY (2017). First-time watch. Knew going into it that it was canceled after one season but still wanted to try it out. Though I questioned a couple story choices, I enjoyed this take overall. Really wished they'd done at least one more season to wrap things up.
First up over the weekend was a rewatch of OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (2013). Had only seen it once before and could barely remember it. Now I know why... 👀
Still in the mood for Oz-related content, so I decided to continue down the yellow brick road a bit to check out some other versions:
