Finally writing down some thoughts about the Pragmatic Summit. Going in order of what I was able to attend live at this awesome event!

Oh wow getfresh.dev this is pretty dope! Just giving it a go right now
Ahah that's my life in Austin these days, where are you located?
Change is inevitable and I always admire people who can see the opportunities that come with it. Especially when the change is not what you expect or what you hoped for.
Stay tuned here! I know I have some followers from Austin!
You better keep me in the loop man ahah
I don't buy into the future with very flat hierarchies and an unreasonable amount of direct reports (30+).
When I hear this I only think that people don't understand what being a good lead means and the human aspect of it.
How shallow will you be during growth review?
I find a fair balance is to encourage experimenting. I personally don't expect people to use it but I would expect them to come to their own conclusion by experimenting.
I know people who are more productive NOT using it so a mandate would be... Yeah, not great.
Ahah blasphemy! Especially if it's already from Tuscany, it doesn't get much better than that!
I meant "importing" oof
Baking! But also with my wife we've been improving and selling olive oil from my hometown. Replace that AI! Ah!
For anyone curious, check it out! www.instagram.com/labellatosca...
Ahhah I'm not surprised I'm the slightest. I just reduced so many workflows from 5 clicks to 1 and I feel so accomplished.
JIRA got me so frustrated that I built my own UI on top of it and life is better.
Just one more prompt...
than turning engineers into QA teams.
This rush to AI and embracing the "we don't even look at code anymore" movement gives a pretty good advantage to teams/companies that work on the right guardrails to keep quality high.
The fun part right now is that everyone is trying to figure it out. I'm still unsure where to go from here other
Congrats, I have the tab open right now to read it!
There have been some interesting tales on what lead/manager roles will look like in the AI future. Some were pretty wild, can't wait to write about it.
You pretty much summarized how I felt after an AI-focused conference. It was a pretty inspiring experience but also afraid of the turn this might take.
That's also very little concern about it (or so that's how it felt) and instead there's an incessant push for what's next.
I don't go to conferences often but now I feel like the bar is too high. Great discussions, great energy!
Whoa I haven't been at Trader Joe's in so long!
On my flight to SFO for the Pragmatic Summit! Woohoo
Pretty sure I don't know anyone who's going but let me know if you need a buddy tomorrow!
Very excited for you my friend!
Have a chat with Phil!
I knew he was doing "Hollywood" work and I'm glad it wasn't picked up by Netflix. Fingers crossed but I'm hopeful!
It also helped me to assume good intent. Most of the time that's the case but the other person might not be as good at communicating. I found out my bat for clear communication was unfairly high for everyone around me =\
Quite relatable! There's a book called Clear Thinking that covers these specific scenarios. The invite is to avoid falling prey to your default behaviors (emotional-driven ones in this case). You take the time to step back and do exactly what you call out!
When I feel like that, speech-to-text has been my friend. It's easier to not start from a blank state when you already know what you want to write about.
Generally, the quality of people here is much higher and so is the willingness to connect. I've had good luck on Substack and I just have to be as active here, I like what I see though!
It's a shame some get a very wrong idea about engineering management because they had a really bad one. Now they think that's what the role is.
I had bad ones too and they helped me learn the type of manager I didn't want to be. Good managers make a difference and I try my best to be one of those!
