THE BRIDE!: Maggie Gyllenhaalβs sophomore directorial effort tries to be bold, audacious, & anarchistic, but it sadly doesnβt work altogether. It looks lavishly well-made and both Buckley & Bale are fascinating, but its uneven tone, banal script & hollowed characters make this a sheer mess. #filmsky

HOPPERS: Pixar's latest is a zany eco-fable action comedy featuring lively animation, amazing vocal work, enough humor for kids and adults, and sweet, tenderhearted moments. It does lack some nuance, and it takes a bit to get going. Nevertheless, it's a chaotic good time at the movies. #filmsky

KOKUHO: A beautifully cinematic tale about the life of a kabuki actor that spans decades. Ryo Yoshizawa is incredible, Ken Watanabe is fantastic and stunning craft on display from the makeup to cinematography. It is a bit bloated with its nearly 3-hour runtime, but still a fascinating film. #filmsky

Good for them. I collect physical media as well, (mostly Blu-rays and vinyl) as a late millennial with autism.
Regardless, I think KPDH will be one of Criterionβs best-selling titles ever.
Flow is a great movie.
But Iβm saying that KPDH was such a βmonster hitβ on Netflix, and becoming a global sensation on social media last year, that this news of a Criterion physical media release was surprising.
And that companyβs no stranger to animation, they even released Pixarβs Wall-E on 4K.

Good for Frankenstein and KPop Demon Hunters.
Although, I'd like to see other Netflix releases get the Criterion treatment. Mainly, these films...
Train Dreams
Da 5 Bloods
The Killer (Fincher)
His Three Daughters
Passing
Tick, Tick... Boom!
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
The Lost Daughter

Wait, what?!
I'd never would've imagine an animated film that has become such an uber-phenomenon would get the Criterion treatment.
Honestly, good for Sony Animation and KPop Demon Hunters.

HOW TO MAKE A KILLING: This retelling of 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' from filmmaker John Patton Ford has style and charisma, but ultimately lacks momentum. Glen Powell may carry some magnetism, but the moral reckoning narrative doesn't offer enough satire to distinguish itself from others. #filmsky

CRIME 101: A solid crime thriller that pays homage to the early works of Michael Mann. The action's slick and nicely stylized in its cinematography & editing. However, its overstuffed narrative and overlong 2 1/2 hour runtime hurt its significance. Still an effective watch overall. #filmsky

GOAT: The latest from Sony Animation is a traditional underdog, or should I say "under-goat", sports movie mostly saved by its vibrant, dazzling animation and incredible world-building. The overall characters and humor are a mixed bag, but contains enough heart & soul to win families over. #filmsky
