The third anniversary of the week. 100 years ago today, LADWP began impounding water at the San Fransquito Dam in northern LA County. Exactly 2 years later on 3/12/1928, the dam failed suddenly and catastrophically, releasing 47million cubic meters of water, killing 430+ people.
I agree: No. But the reasons why are important.
For me, itβs that no matter how good of a prompter you are, youβre still not making all the subtle decisions about whatβs created, nor do you know exactly what and why the AI is deciding something, and the decisions are what put the humanity in works.
Here's what we said about polluter pay laws late last year.
The Gelman 1-4, dioxane plume, a poster child of Michigan's dismantled environmental protections, has been added to the Superfund National Priorities List.
This site is a very good reason why we need to reinstitute polluter pay laws.

Our preschooler: we got these frogs at school.
Us: Oh Cool!
Preschooler: yeah and the boy frog climbed on top of the girl frogβs back.
Us: Ohβ¦
Preschooler: yeah and then they made these sounds that kind of sounds like a duck.
Fine. Take my laughter.
That's "Legendary Anchorman Bill Curtis."
Darn it. He was so much fun. But he deserves some retirement.

If you live in the eastern US like me you probably think this was one of the US' coldest winters on record. You'd be sorely mistaken. The record warmth out West overwhelmed the cold in the East during meteorological winter (Dec-Feb). www.cnn.com/2026/03/07/c...

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan gets greedy. Michigan Medicine calls their bluff. BCBS throws a tantrum, sends scary emails to patients. How very Trumpian of them.
Michigan Medicine argument here:
Tropical forests enhance rainfall, but valuations of the ecosystem service is basically nonexistent, so forests are undervalued.
And yet, as the EU considers a ban on non-essential uses of PFAS, the industry falls into hysterical predictions this will lead directly to the total collapse of medical systems. For the record, the ban would apply to non-essential uses only & firms have long transition times to find alternatives.
At one point I read a convincing analysis that we should avoid both acronyms unless space is an issueβlike on Bluesky. Iβve since just written them out. People read the full words faster and donβt have to sort the acronym as they read. The only downside is space on the screen.
When we talk about Baby Boomers not getting off the stage: In 1997, the US president was born in 1946.
In 2007, the US president was born in 1946.
In 2017, the US president was born in 1946.
And next year in 2027? The US president will have been born in 1946.

The big story from this winter is the record heat across the West, which helped to drive a historic snow drought (even despite some areas of heavier precipitation). We'll be covering this and more in our next monthly webinar at @climatecentral.org. Sign up at: www.climatecentral.org/climate-brie...

"Unlike other local governments where decisions are made before public meetings, Ann Arborβs 'council members actually read the 400-page budget packet, show up with amendments, vote no when they disagree and occasionally lose a 5-1 fight over leaf blowers at 11 p.m. on a Monday night,' "
This is an absolutely insane bill that would demolish many #Michigan lakefront and rural communities.
Among other anti-environmental, pro-mega mansion ideas, it creates a statewide, 25-foot maximum setback.
It's absolute sleaze that Martin claims this bill isn't anti-environmental.
The party that gets aggressively on the right side of this issue is going to win a lot of elections in a lot of places over the next decade. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

More evidence that water -- massive amounts of water -- have been present in the universe since shortly after the Big Bang.
All it took was hydrogen and oxygen, among the earliest elements created.
