ok, yes and my point is that the algorithm that creates the synthetic data needs to have captured the relationships I aim to uncover in my research and I don't get how this should work...

😀 I wanted to say: I never understood the problem that is solved with synthetic data...

I often hear people say that synthetic data is "the future" but always wonder: if I want to find new patterns in my empirical analysis, the data generating process of the synth data needs to have this pattern - and therefore now about the pattern. But then I don't need to study it. Confusing!
