Retrospring is offline!
In place of the site there now is a static shutdown page with some nice graphs.
And all old Retrospring URLs (that are public) redirect to the Web Archive.

We made a new release, 2025.0228.0:
* Added a setting to enable read-only mode (wonder whats that for)
* Added a setting to set a custom repository URL, useful for forks
* Removed the "hardcoded" terms of service
* A lot of dependency updates, 4 months worth of them

Retrospring is now in read-only mode until September 1st 2025, when the site will fully shut down.
You can now only delete your account (or content in general) or make a data export.
We're not going fully silent yet, there's some more info to come.

We updated the blog post, now mentioning that the site will be put into read-only mode starting March 1st, only allowing account deletions and data exports.

We removed ask.fm as an alternative from the list...as it also announced its shutdown (happening on 1st December 2024)

An update to our post:
We removed CuriousCat as an alternative from the list...as it shuts down on October 7th, 2024.
Also, we are going to close down our registrations on October 1st, 2024 (in 3 days) to allow us to operate smoothly for the remaining users until our shutdown.
The linked changelog is for .0, .1 is a release we made just now because we missed a ? somewhere in the code and just broke profiles for everyone not logged in for like 30 minutes.

This actually changes nothing for the site in itself, it mainly gives some more configuration options to people that self-host Retrospring and also fixes a bug for Docker-hosted instances.

We improved exporting of user data a bit, answers now include the questions they are answering. Additionally, the themes export now has the colors in hex representation rather than full numbers.

Aside of some smaller internal updates, this release only includes a bugfix that should prevent the 500 error page showing up when you accidentally smile a question that you already smiled before.

In case some people are scared of not being able to send their long prompts:
32768 is 64 times the short question length, and should be enough to send 20-25 pages of text to someone. If you need any more than that, maybe send the person the book you are writing via mail instead.

The end of infinitely long questions! Someone thought it'd be funny to send a full maths paper and crashing some inboxes with it.
So now we are limiting long questions to 32,768 characters.
