Six years ago WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Despite tens of millions of deaths, the world has not sufficiently addressed the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, and we are more vulnerable to future pandemics due to anti-science officials leading government agencies around the world.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

[Headline:] Mayor Zohran Mamdani Appoints Mohammad Khan to New York City Campaign Finance Board
[Dek:] Khan to serve five-year term on Board overseeing city's matching funds program, voter engagement initiative NYC Votes
NEW YORK - The New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB), the independent, nonpartisan city agency that administers the city's nationally recognized program to amplify small contributions and curb the influence of big money in local elections, welcomes new Board Member Mohammad Khan, who was appointed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani for a five-year term, effective immediately.
Screenshot of the 2nd through 5th body-paragraphs of a press release issued today (March 11, 2026) by the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB). The text of these 4 paragraphs is as follows:
--
"At the CFB, our Board plays a critical role in making New York City's democracy more open and accessible - making it easier for candidates to run for office and win, holding campaigns accountable to strict rules and laws, increasing transparency, and safeguarding taxpayer dollars," said Paul S. Ryan, executive director of the CFB. "The Board and I look forward to collaborating with Mr. Khan to further serve the voters, candidates, and New Yorkers of all stripes, who deserve a government they can trust."
The nonpartisan Board, consisting of five members who are each appointed to five-year terms, oversees the work of the agency. The Mayor and Speaker of the City Council each appoint two members, respectively, who may not be enrolled in the same political party. The Chairperson of the Board, currently Frederick Schaffer, is chosen by the Mayor after consultation with the Speaker.
Born and raised in Queens, Khan is a veteran political professional with experience leading electoral and advocacy campaigns spanning city, state and federal government. Currently he serves as Political Director at MoveOn, a national public policy and advocacy group. Khan started his career as a financial institutions examiner with federal banking regulators, building a robust foundation of policy expertise and analysis, and has served as a campaign treasurer, campaign manager, and City Council chief of staff.
"The CFB's agenda of making our local elections more open, inclusive, and accountable provides immeasurable benefits to New York City's democracy," said Khan. "It is an honor to serve as a Board Member of the CFB and support the advancement of this vital mission."
Our dear @nywfp.bsky.social comrade Mohammad Khan has been appointed to NYC's Campaign Finance Board!
The mayor may unilaterally appoint 2 people to the board, but they must be of different political parties.
Instead of doing the usual 1 Democrat and 1 Republican, Zohran's doing 1 Dem + 1 β¨WFPβ¨ π₯

ME/CFS folks, if you have spoons for this, I think moderating online groups, esp state-level groups, is a crucial intervention.
Last I was in the loop on this, many of MEActionβs state-level Facebook groups were closed for lack of moderators, and it has really hampered state-level advocacy IMO.

Now Dems control the leg, but the county's already spent $40M. What to do?
This is a great example of governing's complexities, and @mobreezy213.bsky.social is navigating them masterfully.
