The walking tour leaflet is now being distributed to sites across Glasgow and is also available digitally from our website. The two boards can be seen at the site of the Festival Waterfall and Lochan at Festival Park, G51 1HJ

It's the 37th anniversary of the Glasgow Garden Festival’s Public Opening Day, and hence a fitting occasion to announce our new walking tour leaflet and interpretation boards. The two boards in Festival Park mark the first onsite recognition of the event.

@glasgowgardenfestival.org Found another leaflet, this one for the Clydesdale Tower.
It was built by Mctaggart & Mickel as a temporary structure for the festival, which ran for five months. Here's my copy of the brochure, which contains the background story on the design... (THREAD)

One of the finds from our Glasgow City Heritage Trust funded digs earlier this year at the site of the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival made a list of the top 5 finds of the year - and featured on the BBC Scotland news homepage today!

which aligns closely with the after-use model exhibited at the Festival itself - these would appear to have the same ultimate source. (Credit: JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University)
This after-use study shows a marina, housing planned for where the BBC, Science Centre and business park are today, and a business park where housing was finally built! (Plus a nice 'Riverside Area' with hotel, restaurants, etc., roughly where the STV studios are now located.)
This (frustratingly undated) document - an inventory of tree stock for reuse - shows the proposed Pacific Drive, cut right across the Garden Festival site.
Some more fascinating Garden Festival documents came to light recently - in this case relevant to the proposed afteruse of the site, and very interesting in the light of what actually came to pass. (Credit: Ann and David Lever archive)
