The thing is, they don't even have to lay mines to create an effect
Some rumours of them laying mines, perhaps some satellite pics of them putting decoys in the water are enough to completely spook the insurance market

guys LOOK AT THE CUTENESS
These things can't be changed.
Trump probably can't find any of those places on a map and thinks that yelling at people gets things done.
Geography is underdiscussed as a factor in deterrence and war, probably because people think it's obvious.
Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz.
North Korea has held Seoul hostage for longer than they've had nuclear weapons.
Ukraine shares much of its boundary with Russia.
High-level people have quit or been removed and replaced with toadies.
A few people may have mentioned this immutable fact of geography but it may not have percolated up to Trump, or he screamed at them.
Not very bright guys...things got away...
Interesting.
βInside the administration, some officials are growing pessimistic about the lack of a clear strategy to finish the war. But they have been careful not to express that directly to the president, who has repeatedly declared that the military operation is a complete success.β
Profiles in courage.
Here's your chance to stand up against Trump and show your support for farmworkers. Join us on March 18th as 100+ farm workers and their supporters rally outside of the federal courthouse in Fresno while our case against the Trump admin's H-2A wage cuts is being heard inside the courthouse. 1/

Thanks, Chris Murphy, for this information!
Lots of surprises for a five-post thread!
Those were woke plans!
Nice question. If we include bacteria as predators, we might consider the Black Death of the 14th century the last big crash.
We must never lose sight of how absolutely fucking hallucinatorily batshit this is. The other guy says when you surrender now? That means *you* are the one suing for peace
When the Trump-Vance administration tried to cut $12 million in funding for pediatric health services, we sued and won.
Today, the admin announced they wouldn't appeal our win, provingβyet againβthis administration backs off when the people call their bluff.

Farm workers are harvesting tangerines
Farm workers are harvesting tangerines in an orchard in Maricopa, CA, surrounded by rows of trees loaded with ripe fruit. "Beto" shares, "We must climb high ladders to reach the top branches. We need to be very careful as we don't want to fall." #WeFeedYou

So sad to lose someone so important in your life. But you are carrying on the work!
Thanks! Yes, I've had this in the back of my head - basically, the most thorough health study that has been done finds no physical effects that might be attributed to the mystery weapon. But I was too lazy to find this article. Will bookmark it!
Whoa. This is big. "The U.S. Navy has refused near-daily requests from the shipping industry for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on Iran, saying the risk of attacks is too high for now." www.reuters.com/world/middle...

Yeah. I was planning a trip to China when that occurred. Never have gotten there.
It was such a good time to be alive. So many things seemed possible.
That seems like a serious undercount given what we know about Lebanon.
1989. I'm well into my career and developing a new program. The fall of the wall is barely believable but a very good sign. The people where I work are cautious of such things.
I become more aware of the Baltic States, which will become independent two years later and my focus a few years later.
And btw, I'm grateful for the Canadians here who still tolerate me.
This is the ultimate end of Trump's tactic of saying anything anywhere. Nobody has any idea of what he saying nor of its relationship to reality.
I think it's partly what he thinks of as negotiating, his testing of points on the audience, and his dementia.
But we need it to end.
Maybe slowly moving toward the off ramp
