If the Dems who win in the 2026 midterms get squeamish about prosecuting this administration, we'll need to elect a bunch of new people running on Nuremberg shit for 2028. This isn't a joke. It's the law. It's justice. Biden let Trump back in the WH and this happened because Joe didn't do his job

I think they know that and thatโ€™s why they are getting worse .

They want Trump gone but love the inequality he has set up and think if they instead make it seem that they are turning on the targets and justify it with โ€œpragmatismโ€theyโ€™ll be absolved

they do it socially and interpersonally

This is why Iโ€™ve said time and time again that working in comics as a creator full time is unsustainable. My quality of life immediately improved when I got a full-time job and only took on comics/freelance projects I wanted to take on and not taking all jobs out of necessity.

Who indeed. I never went into journalism full-time cuz starting pay back in 2005 was $25,000. I made more working for a non-profit.

If bigoted American voters can't be honest about how we got here? We're staying here. Because of them.

Birth of a Nation is a misunderstood film, IMO, depiction is not endorsement, and DW Griffith's contributions to cinematography shouldn't be overshadowed by the fact that some people decided to interpret his film as supporting controversial political agendas.

Wait, I just found some clips online.
That's... look, I'll take Griffith at his word that he wasn't trying to seem borderline-fanatically bigoted, but really man; this could have used a second draft.

Was it just impossible to find mixed-race extras back then? All of these half-breed northern soldiers are played by white actors in makeup!

Huh. The film's treatment of Lincoln is surprisingly sympathetic. I think I can see what Griffith was going for, but some of the choices he made really detract from the more nuanced ideas he wanted to put across (why do the black characters speak like that?)

This is horrific and grotesque, but it is always important to point out: as long as running concentration camps in the United States is a legal, profitable business model, companies will fiercely bid against one another for contracts.

My point is these are not people who have gotten good at creating new things that people need and making a steady profit off of that.

They are people who have gotten good at extracting wealth from a captured market they helped create.

I don't think it's just job security. It's people who have gotten ahead by rent seeking. I point to door dash as an example because it is only modestly better than calling your local restaurant and ordering that way but they charge restaurants a 30-50% fee to do it.

I'm too bored of this to try and be clever about it anymore.

If you think that two men kissing, or two women kissing, requires any more explanation than a man kissing a woman, that is homophobia.

โ€œOne of the most insidious aspects of colonialism, reinforced by the paucity of positive diverse representation in literature, is that authors of color often have to undertake an entire personal journey to learn that it is okay to write characters (and stories) that arenโ€™t whiteโ€

The South ending Reconstruction and plunging their populations into a backward looking culture and economy until it was forced to modernize by the Civil Rights movement is imo a very clean parallel.

'An Iranian missile landed on him': Sky News speaks to son of expat who died in United Arab Emirates Saleh Ahmed, 55, was delivering drinking water when he was fatally struck by debris after a missile attack on the first day of the war. Victims in our countries seldom get profiled and humanised in Western media. This is a portrait of a life cut short. What a tragedy.

"Saleh Ahmed (55) lived in the UAE as an expat for 25 years, sending under ยฃ500 per month in earnings to Bangladesh for his wife and four children."

I've been listening to an audiobook about airships (zeppelins, dirigibles, or blimps, depending on locale), and how they NEVER really worked, but governments had invested so much in them that they were determined to MAKE them work, wasting fortunes & years & lives

This post is not about airships

Doing taxes and you would think seeing what I spend on books in a year would radicalize me to stop buying books until I read the ones I already have but I know full well that my reasoning when I'm deciding whether or not to purchase is "but I'm supporting the humanities"

Haha that's so cute. It's nice when the grandparents are close!

My mom has been wanting to help out with the animals but she's disabled and her current location makes it hard. Being under the same roof will make it way easier.
