These are just pointless mistakes that would be so easy to fix, but apparently not at all a concern to the writer (or editor!) because he makes them over and over. I completely lost trust in his ability to pull off the story. You're writing historical fiction! These bloopers are fatal.
The last straw was two characters walking into a stable and the horse is just waiting there, saddled and bridled and ready to go.
And even worse, it treated horses like cars. I so desperately wanted to like the book because the first chapters were brilliant, but just I couldn't keep reading.
Had to throw a historical fiction novel aside last night because it repeatedly treated trekking very long distances through the desert like a walk in the park, even though the characters were unequipped, unexperienced, and unmapped AND traveling at night.
