My experiences with AI coding agents recently have changed my approach to software engineering. I wrote something up about it here:

I’d love to hear what your experiences have been too. ✌️

I’m loving the oxide and friends podcast, but the audio is a bit low. @bcantrill.bsky.social — maybe use some audio compression to raise the lows around 12db? 😁
Okay, I'm diving head-first into fully automated AI-driven development with Gas Town for a personal project I've never had time to work on myself. Let's see how far this goes!
Happy new year from Sydney! 🎇
Zootopia 2 is a good movie.
Actually, it was very good. In my opinion better than the first one.
Screenshot of 36 degree heat.
Oh my. It’s HOT! 🥵
I’m so blessed that my 16 year old daughter still wants to go out, have dinner with me, and watch a movie.
Father-daughter time is so precious and special, and I always say yes to those no matter what else is going on. 🙏
Thanks. When you say pushed to the side, is the intent to push folks to do reflection instead?
Like, with consteval and some static macro-like system?
80 columns and max 2 space indents, and max 1 space in between tokens/operators on the same line. No space after (, <, [, and before closing equivalents.
Yeah I think I’m just old fashioned and poor. 😂😂😂
To my C++ committee friends: has more generic type-based algorithms been proposed?
I’ve recently had to implement tuple type reordering, and set-like algorithms (intersection, difference) and I’m surprised there’s nothing in the C++ standard for this yet.
Is there appetite for things like these?
I want this!
Want!
I might be old fashioned or poor (or both) but I don’t have nearly enough horizontal real estate on any of my displays for more than 2 spaces. Bad eyes also compounds this, so I stick with as little white space I can manage horizontally.
Vertically though, multiple empty lines for the win. 😂
Close up photo of a white flower.
I like flowers. 🌸
Now that I’m working in this AI industry, I keep wondering what really affordable inference-geared hardware will do for the next generation of models.
If models didn’t have to run on GPUs, and matrix multiplication got really fast and really economical, how would it change things?
I need a Software Engineering Anonymous meeting nearby.
I’m an addict and it’s hard to keep all the nonsense I see from my day-to-day because if it. I need a safe space to let my feelings out without being judged.
I need to pray the AA prayer more often, I think.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but you can schedule teams messages and outlook messages so that they arrive on Monday if someone is out for thanksgiving week and it's not urgent
I don’t usually do this, but watching #pluribus I can’t seem to connect with the main character.
I keep asking myself while watching it, “what’s wrong with this person?!”
Anyway, I can’t wait for the next one and maybe understand what’s going on more…
After a few years of not doing it, I can say that I am actually enjoying writing/reading C++ again.
Now if I can get the safety guardrails that Rust gives me by default, it would be more amazing.
Picked up new glasses and now I can see the world in 4K again. Highly recommend.
I just had the weirdest conversation with my son. He was asking how mortgages work. Ended up having to explain refinancing and equity too.
He’s turning 11 in a few days. 😬
My relationship with search has changed. I now default to using Perplexity for anything I’m looking up instead of Google.
I suspect I might not be alone in this one.
Just popping in to see that this tool seems promising and is very reminiscent of something I used at Google while I was there. Looking forward to the vs code integration in the future. 😁

I believe you. As an observer myself the only practical application of Economics has been micro-economic theory and in the context of sales and marketing. Even there it’s mostly psychology and statistics. 🤷♂️
Cool!
I have a dream one day to have a DAW running in a Mac Mini or MacBook Pro and using a controller like that for levels.
Because I’m mobile mixing the front of house mix (I roam around to check levels), I still like the iPad as a control surface. 😊
I get to control a Behringer X32 Rack mixer at church with the iPad app. I’m 100% sold on the rack mountable form factor for these.
Math is hard 😂😭

Another landscape shot, this time a lighthouse from a distance.
When they say viewership is down, do they just look at the TV ratings? Because I don’t ever watch on TV, I just do it on the App. And I watch more highlights than full games.
And I also see a lot of arenas packed.
And the biggest draws are folks like Steph that put up ridiculous 3s and make them!
Firaxis—the studio behind the Civilization series—is hiring a historian. An *actual* historian.
And note, when they ask for "4+ years as a Writer, Narrative Designer, or other position with commensurate duties," that includes teaching, writing, and research—i.e. your Ph.D. in History.
