Great to be back at @acog.org for the 800+ obgyn strong Congressional Leadership Conference. Our team at @democracyforward.org is grateful to represent clinicians in matters defending people, communities, & science and personally Iโm grateful to have represented @acog_org for more than a decade now.
The record now shows two things: the seriousness of the violations and the power of the courts to stop them.
Weโll continue to use every legal tool available to ensure that the Constitution applies to everyone and that the government is held accountable when it breaks the law.
BREAKING: Our team won a court order BLOCKING the Trump-Vance adminโs attempt to fast-track deportations and dismantle due process for non-citizens, including those seeking asylum.
This ruling stops the admin from playing games with our immigration system and peoples lives.
"I have dedicated my career to ensuring that the words engraved on the front of the Supreme Court buildingโ'Equal Justice Under Law'โare a reality and not just an ideal." - Ketanji Brown Jackson, First Black woman to become a Supreme Court Justice
โAs women achieve power, the barriers will fall. As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and weโll all be better off for it.โ - Sandra Day OโConnor - First woman to serve as a Supreme Court Justice and issued the deciding vote to uphold Roe v. Wade in 1973
โYour committee takes unusual pleasure in recommending the admission of Mrs. Mansfieldโฆ She has given the very best rebuke possible to the imputation that ladies cannot qualify for the practice of law.โ โ Iowa bar examiners attesting to the qualifications of Arabella Mansfield, First woman to become a lawyer in the United States in 1869
โThe right to identify our own existence lies at the heart of oneโs humanity. And so, we must heed their voices: 'the woman that I am,' 'the man that I am.โ โ Judge Cerezoโs written order in Arroyo v. Rossellรณ requiring Puerto Rico to allow transgender people to change their gender marker on their birth certificate Carmen Consuelo Cerezo - First Latina to serve on a federal bench when she became a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Puerto Rico
This Womenโs History Month and on International Womenโs Day, we celebrate some of the legal pioneers who broke barriers, challenged exclusion, and re-shaped our justice system to ensure all women have a voice under the law.
Their work built the path โ now we must keep pushing forward.
โจThe law has not changed. Diversity, equity, and inclusion did not fail. Itโs being abandoned for political gain.
@democracyforward.org joins partners in signing this NYT letter urging companies, regulators, and policymakers to stop giving in to anti-democratic demands.
A judge has confirmed what we have long known: Kari Lake took over not to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media, but to dismantle it. This is a powerful affirmation of the rule of law, as threats to democracy loom not only around the world but here at home.
This is a big win for @democracyforward.org, our clients, and co-counsel. A stroke of dark irony: Voice of America has played a key role since WWII to combat disinformation, often promulgated by the worldโs autocrats. We are pleased to have secured this result as democracy backslides here at home.
Kristi Noem may be out at the Department of Homeland Security, but that doesnโt mean weโll stop fighting the agencyโs unlawful actions.
As I said on @theweekendmsnow.bsky.social this morning, there are costs to doing the presidentโs bidding. Donald Trump canโt pardon a lawyer back into their bar license.
We call on all lawyers to oppose efforts to undermine our professional ethics.
The legacy of Bloody Sunday calls us all to fiercely protect the hard-fought freedoms that those before us marched, sacrificed, and suffered for.
Together, we can make the promise of democracy accessible for all.
Today, the court recognized that poisoning a residential community with toxic chemicals is a profound abuse of power by DHS.
Proud of our team @democracyforward.org. We must continue protecting the right to live in oneโs home without fear of chemical weapons being used by the government.

In America, voters choose their leaders - not the other way around.
As CEO @skyeperryman.bsky.social assures ABC News, any attempts by the Trump-Vance admin to undermine U.S. elections will be met with swift legal action in court.

If Trump is serious about ending Noemโs tenure, DHS should immediately reverse her decisions to:
**put ICE in schools, hospitals, and houses of worship
**make it harder for people fleeing autocratic nations to seek asylum
**deprive people of due process
Until then, we will still be in court.
President Trump's efforts to create religious or moral exemptions to the ACA's contraceptive mandate are a dangerous threat to women's health care access.
We filed a brief on behalf of @acog.org and other medical orgs dedicated to protecting safe and effective reproductive care.
Thank you to @ppfa.org of Illinois for inviting me to speak about the fight for democracy in the courts, including our efforts to protect voting rights and access to health care.
Together, our people and communities are strong and will overcome barriers to justice.
The Trump-Vance admin spent its first year in office decimating the civil service and undermining the protections that have supported the workforce for decades โ and now theyโre back at it.
Our team @democracyforward.org is in court to stop this destructive attempt to remake the federal workforce.
One of the stories we told was about the fight against Christian Nationalism in Texas โ a fight being fought by Christians themselves who reject the misapplication of our faith. Central to that story then โ as now โ was James Talarico. It has aged well: bittersoutherner.com/sponsored/de...
In 2024 before the Presidential election and before this current Senate race, @democracyforward.org partnered with @bittersouth.bsky.social to tell all too untold and ignored stories of the fight for freedom in the South that our team has the privilege of being part of with so many communities.
More dysfunction from the Trump-Vance administration today. And now, we have been granted permission to depose Secretary Kristi Noem and other officials. The truth will come out.
BREAKING: In our case challenging the Trump-Vance administrationโs cuts to FEMA, a federal court has ordered discovery, including a deposition of Kristi Noem. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. @democracyforward.org
If the White House is embarrassed about the headlines yesterday of its retreat, it will be *really* embarrassed when it loses across the board on appeal. The First Amendment (among others) prohibits targeting these firms. And the President should quit before he gets further behind.
Said it before. Will say it again. Courage is the new currency. Iโm proud of the firms that pushed back, including my former firms, WilmerHale and Covington. As a mentor who has since passed away once told me, โsometimes you have to get in there and be a lawyer.โ www.nytimes.com/2026/03/02/u...
Todayโs ruling makes it clear that Sec. Noem cannot silence elected officials who are doing their jobs.
The court once again affirmed that oversight is not optional, transparency is not negotiable, and human rights do not disappear at the doors of a detention center.
These types of serious questions is precisely why our Constitution required Congress to authorize war. This President has abused his power beyond a breaking point.
There is a reason multiple presidents have been focused on addressing the threats posed by Iran without starting a war. The risk to both American and non-American lives is urgent, especially when there is no clear end or exit to this conflict President Trump chose to start.
Seven in 10 Americans opposed strikes in Iran and Trump made no effort to persuade them otherwise (via Bloomberg Opinion)
I started writing this book when it became undeniably clear, as our history also teaches, that it is not our institutions that will save usโnot the courts, not corporate generosity, not the universities, not the mediaโbut it is the people.
