MPs urge government to implement animal welfare law abroad Over 30 MPs attended a parliamentary event urging the government to implement a law meant to stop UK companies promoting cruel wildlife attractions abroad.

We met to explain why the government must urgently implement the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act and headed to Downing Street to deliver a letter to the Prime Minister.

It’s time for the government to step up and make progress in protecting animals from exploitation.

The Act, which applies to England, Wales and Northern Ireland, aims to stop travel companies from selling and advertising cruel wildlife attractions that take place abroad such as dolphin shows, tiger cub petting and elephant rides.

Together, we're urging the government to finally implement the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act by listing which activities are banned under the legislation that was passed back in 2023. As shockingly, over 2 years later, not a single animal has been protected.

Yesterday we hosted a drop-in event at the Houses of Parliament with six fellow animal welfare organisations. Our Country Director, Ruth Tanner, also joined representatives in delivering a letter directly to 10 Downing Street.

We're at the Houses of Parliament today alongside other animal welfare charities, urging the government to finalise the Animals (Low Welfare Activities Abroad) Act.

2 years on, we’re still waiting for the activity regulations to be introduced.

This step taken by the Indonesia government sends a strong signal to the wider tourism industry that we’re entering a new chapter of more responsible wildlife tourism.

The UK is falling behind other countries in animal welfare standards and the animal welfare strategy announced back in December lacks decisive action by merely encouraging the adoption of slower growing chicken breeds.

Good news! Norway plans to phase out fast-growing chicken breeds by 2027.

These so called “frankenchickens” struggle to support their own bodyweight and suffer from very painful conditions.

We urge the UK government to follow Norway’s example and urgently ban these breeds too.

Stories like these show that cows are sentient, intelligent individuals, who deserve lives worth living 🧡

They don't belong in factory farms where they are treated as machines.

Hugging a wild animal may seem harmless but one photo for you is a lifetime of trauma and captivity for them.

Be vigilant to animal exploitation and avoid cruel venues: if you are able to hug or hold a wild animal, the chances are it has suffered some kind of cruelty.
