This is a powerful letter from Minneapolis Legislative Delegation asking Mayor Frey to sign Pause Evictions, Save Lives.

16/17 state legislators who represent Minneapolis signed onto this letter. Itโ€™s time for Mayor Frey to sign this ordinance and support our immigrant neighbors.

This is one reason why we cannot "concede" on "the worst of the worst" framing. Defund the police, all the police, is the only way.

Dear Mayor Frey,
As elected officials who represent Minneapolis, we ask you to sign Pause Evictions Save Lives (legislative file 2026-00099). Temporarily extending the pre-eviction notice from 30 to 60 days gives our residents extra time that is desperately needed to help find resources to prevent eviction.
We've all been amazed by our shared constituents' resiliency and resolve in the face of ICE's illegal occupation of our City. Our residents banded together to protect one another, even raising millions of dollars in mutual aid funds to help keep their neighbors in their homes. It's our duty as elected officials to match the commitment in our residents to try and keep as many of our neighbors in their homes as possible.
We look to Minneapolis to lead the way and are working on similar bills to extend pre-eviction notices statewide to help our neighbors. Signing the Pause Evictions Save Lives measure will bolster our efforts and reinforce our message to our colleagues about the way in which pre-eviction notices help prevent families from being evicted.
We've been so proud of the work of the City of Minneapolis to respond to this unprecedented federal invasion. Your work to increase funding for immigration legal services, rental assistance, and creating a small business resiliency fund has shown how elected officials can meet the moment. Signing Pause Eviction Save Lives is the next step in helping our residents recover and ensure none of them are left behind.
Sincerely,
DoaChh

After detainments and deportations, the lives left behind in Minnesota From abandoned possessions to unpaid rent, many Minnesotans had to lean on family, friends and community organizations for help with their unfinished business.

A veto of the 60-day pre-eviction notice tells people that you want them evicted into the cold earlier and that youโ€™re unwilling to protect our immigrant neighbors.

Let Mayor Frey know you want him to sign Pause Evictions, Save Lives.

Important ruling on immigration operations in Minnesota

Judge Tostrud (Trump appointee):

"Plaintiffs have made a clear showing that Defendants have adopted a POLICY authorizing federal immigration officers to conduct investigatory stops based on ethnicity or race without reasonable suspicion."

Evictions are far more costly than 30 extra days and itโ€™s not close. Especially when the 30 extra days will often result in landlords getting money theyโ€™re owed from their tenants anyways.

Minnesotaโ€™s chief justice declines, again, to restrict immigration enforcement at courthouses State Supreme Court Chief Justice Natalie Hudson said the Judicial Branch restricting how federal law enforcement operates could be perceived as taking a stand on a political issue.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, whose staff works in the Hennepin County Government Center, said in a statement that she was disappointed in Hudsonโ€™s decision to take โ€œno actionโ€ to ensure safe access to the courts for victims, witnesses and staff.

This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

Uploading Pirated Books via BitTorrent Qualifies as Fair Use, Meta Argues * TorrentFreak In an ongoing lawsuit, Meta now argues that uploading pirated books to strangers via BitTorrent qualifies as fair use.

In 2013 Aaron Swartz committed suicide for facing 35 years in prison for mass downloading scientific articles.

13 years later, Meta is almost getting away with an infraction orders of magnitude larger.

The law didn't change.
