There’s also the sense that the movie is about the intersection of longing and nostalgia - it’s framed as Calloway’s fond recollection of an especially interesting case he was involved in, and there’s the longing for a “return to normalcy” that the jaunty café tune represents.

Holly isn’t a hardboiled noir detective - he’s a naive dime novellist who went to Vienna expecting to promote a charity while experiencing the local culture.

Regarding the score, since that’s kind of the biggest point of discussion surrounding the film: I think the cheery zither melodies actually do work surprisingly well for the otherwise fairly bleak content.

He actually gets scared MAYBE once that entire game and then shoots god in the face. He kills evil cultists who’ve tracked him across state borders. His weapon of choice is a sledgehammer that he used to pulverize monsters.

I’ve played those first three games like a dozen times each. Harry is like the most “MY GAME MAY BE RATED M BUT THESE HANDS ARE RATED E FOR EVERYONE” of the (male) Silent Hill protagonists. He’s like comically badass for being the protagonist of the “everyman” horror game.
