The idea has always been to expose DIY artists/labels to as big an audience as possible so keeping the newsletter free is vital. I'm relying on advertisers and subscribers to help fund this.

Thanks for the kind words Willie. The subs model seems ideal, a few hundred people at a few quid a month and it's sustainable. I could offer a subs-only newsletter, but my audience would go from 1,800+ to 50 overnight...

For the first time since I started Moonbuilding Weekly two years ago, we have no adverts this week. We are supported by 54 of our 1,800+ readers who have a paid subscription. If the labels/artists we write about don't think we're worth supporting, I think we might have run our course.

"Fascinating stuff. Musically it’s vast, great big slabs of mournful sound, like huge monoliths crashing into each other."

Neil wanted a quiet one on @moonbuilding.bsky.social this week, which is why he asked me to review @confluxcoldwell.bsky.social new record 'Shadows And Simulacra', which was made in part with generative AI. It was great fun to write, knowing the strong feelings people have about this tech.

Big thank you to @moonbuilding.bsky.social for making our new song 'What About Tomorrow?' track of the week!

"swirling appeggios" and "a wonderful repeating, Reich-like piano riff from Meg."
