My university has initiated « Service First, » a budget-cutting measure mainly aimed at eliminating staff in service positions (eg the useful ones).

Have horses been replaced? Seriously: the pleasure of riding a horse is intensely higher than driving most cars.

Also (and probably isolated and anecdotal): if your press is still stalling after a year, maybe think about possible reviewers who might have died recently (my true story).

This is probably too late, because I’m sick. For journals: abstracts really matter. Yes, they’re tedious to write. But they help editors understand your work and also encourage (or, discourage) reviewers to accept the review, since many journals only show abstract, not full article.

I did read most of the article. I stopped before I arrived at that section because there were no citations or indications of sources. But even so, my message was asking for assistance, not your snotty snark.

Pope Leo also refused to meet with Vance, opting instead to visit with migrants in Lampedusa.

Could you provide some info about the provenance of these letters? I hate to doubt (you’re a published, credentialed author) but I’d love to know how these images came to you before I recirculate them. They’re absolutely horrifying.

I was born in Manhattan in 1970 and though I’ve lived elsewhere since the early 90s, it’s still and always my home. I’ve never been so excited for a new NYC mayor as I am about you. Oh, and I’m Jewish. ✡️☪️

No one is ever a “Christian billionaire” even though that’s pretty much a violation of Christianity as I understand it.

I will just refer to every Trump-renamed structure as Idlewild (New Yorkers of a certain age will get this joke).

Anecdote: I went to an ophthalmologist last year, erroneously called My Eye Doctor, at which the « eye doctor » who saw me was 1. a quiz I took on an iPad and 2. An actual eye doctor on zoom from another state, basically guiding me as I administered my own eye exam. Refused to pay (succeeded).

Your good sense of humor compensates well for lack of command of Homeric epic!

I am a widely published scholar on the subject of Homeric epic. I dont think you want to pick this fight with me.

Leguizamo is Colombian-American, and he’s been cast as the loyal Eumaeus, a virtuous farmhand (no sneering toadie).

The Dutch Golden Age (brilliant course taught by a rare book librarian)
Shakespeare and Marlowe
French Art from Poussin to Manet (hated the art but loved the course)

Pretty much. I like men so much that I’ve married two of them, and dated many more, but have still been called a screeching beech by those few who didn’t get exactly what they wanted from me, exactly when they wanted it.

Nice place, until the EPA is gutted, the park rangers all fired, and all the tax breaks go to oil companies.
