Solar and wind are also full of tough construction jobs, the difference though is that coal and oil looks dirty (note that gas doesn't get much romanticizing). And with conservatives, it feels like it's all about how stuff looks.
This is one reason why everyone with a bar license should be lining up to do pro bono habeas petitions for detainees right now.
I know so many people who are doing this. A few hours of training and you will save lives and families.

Monstrous: link between California's long overdue wildfire aid and a bill to fund Trump's depraved war of aggression. Congressional Repubs are talking about linking wildfire aid to a bill to pay for Trump's war, in order to attract Dem votes. Tell them: HELL NO. actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...
More useful than eliminating taxes below a certain income would be replacing subsidy cliffs with slopes, so that people don't lose entire benefits such as healthcare subsidies by being a dollar over the line.
Whatβs a rent ceiling β and why should you care? A rent ceiling is the legal max rent for fully covered units in Berkeley. Find out your coverage and your rent ceiling in the Rent Registry: rentregistry.cityofb...

Over here in the Bay Area, one can make six figures and qualify for subsidized housing, since the median income is significantly above 100k.
It's still good money though!
I see 4, and even some 5 and 6-bedroom apartments near the UC Berkeley campus, and basically nowhere else.
4-5 bed houses are popular in a lot of places around the Bay Area, usually for families with both kids and grandparents.
Here in the Bay Area, we take pride in things feeling a bit not real ππ
This weekend was the big Lunar New Year street fair, Saturday night there were fireworks for sale and people setting them off in the street.
Normally it's less chaotic but still busy, San Francisco Chinatown is one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in the country.
Welcome to the Bay!
Celebrating International Women's Day. Drawing of a town with buildings that say "Equality" and "Justice" on them, circles below in a variety of sizes and skin tones. Berkeley Rent Board Commissioner Alfred Twu
Celebrating International Women's Day - Let's continue to work towards equality and justice in housing, the workplace, and society, and honor the workers, socialists, and activists who started this day and carried it forward each generation.
Crayon and ink drawing of a dragon dance, except it's a dragon that looks like a very long blahaj shark. The dancers are wearing flowing red, pink, and white clothes, the background has a tree and buildings, one with shark ornament and another looking like a vertical shark.

Just don't do a sphere as nothing leaks like a geodesic dome π
Agree, every unnecessary corner added to a building is another potential leak, mold problem, and health hazard.
Also the extra surface area caused by "breaking up the mass" means less energy efficiency.
These last couple weeks, it's felt like it's gone straight from winter to summer!
While many community college students live at home and commute, many never had stable housing in the first place.
In the last few years, many state laws have been passed in California to make it easier for community colleges to build student housing.
A couple years at community college followed by transfer to a UC is a common, & increasingly popular way many Californians get their college degrees. In addition to expanded community college space, there's now also a large dorm for transfer students.
Next up we could use community college housing.

They're disguised as windmills π
Health threats such as heat, mold, etc, are among my largest concerns about climate change. It doesn't have the dramatic of visuals like wildfire or flooding, which causes it to not be taken as seriously.
More places need to follow L.A. County and pass Right to Cooling laws. coolhealthyhomes.org
The issue here isn't e-bikes, which already are required by law to be limited to low maximum speeds.
The issue is electric motorcycles, a different category of vehicle.

While ideally mainstream hospitals wouldn't be abandoning trans people, the importance of having our own health systems is having providers that won't use the "protecting funding for other patients" argument to drop services.
Similarly, there is also Chinese Hospital in San Francisco, which has its roots as something similar to a DIY network, at a time when mainstream medicine failed to serve the community. www.kalw.org/2025-03-10/a...
I do feel that we could use our own healthcare system as a backstop for trans care.
San Francisco has the Lyon-Martin clinic, which was started about 50 years ago from community efforts. This was where I first went to get trans care and it was great to have around. www.lyon-martin.org/history
New Year season wraps up this weekend in San Francisco with a parade from Market Street to Chinatown on Saturday, starting at 5pm, and street fairs on Grant Ave on Saturday (10am-4:30p) and Sunday (9am-5p). π§§π
