it's specifically the post-arcade millennial generation that's hung up on singleplayer gaming. the shift to social/multiplayer/online games is just a modern version of going back to arcades and having a laugh at a game and then moving on to the next.
on my end, I am a diablo guy. meaning I am a diablo (1997) guy, not a diablo 2/3/4 guy. if you just need something to sink time into, sure, get lost in a loot game.

yea it's not an "official" policy (as they outright do not offer refunds per their FAQs regardless of region) but just a thing they will do in some limited capacity and depending who you're talking to. the framing of this article based on some reddit post is highly questionable tho.
the thing you're talking about simply doesn't exist, though, is the problem. Whatever you mean by "the original Mario" was never sold for US$ 60. The only digital copies of Super Mario Bros or you could buy were during the Virtual Console days on Wii/3DS/Wii U for $5 ($8 for World, 10 for 64).
you're thinking of a different game. "the original mario" = super mario bros. (NES) was never sold on the eShop for 60 USD or anywhere near that price. this is extremely easy to look up. you're mxing this up with a different game or a compilation.
there is no such thing as a $60 eShop copy of Super Mario Bros or even World or 64 you can buy.
they are not "issuing refunds", people are burning their regular "one time no questions asked" refund that everyone has on this $5 upgrade. they're not issuing anything. pls do more research, some of these headlines have gotten really bad.
