“Self Portrait In Yellow”
It seemed only right that I include a self portrait for this body of work focusing on queer Appalachian women. As I’ve slowly taken in these stories and converted other’s spoken word into paintings, golden butterflies have become a theme.

I’ve been having so many emotions based around my womanhood and queerness under the thumb of our current administration. I advocate through the “proper” channels, but what I really want to do is show just how trapped, feral, and angry I am.

“Losing What We Have Left”
I would be lying to say that the hate spread by our current administration isn’t playing into my work for my upcoming show. How could it not? Every happy moment painted is tinged with fear and worry for the future of quiet, happy, queer moments.

Not only am I making a body of work that feels extremely important these days, but I’m also getting to meet and talk with amazing Appalachian women! Melissa and I got to know each other through my work, and getting to include her story in my paintings is a true gift 🖤
If feels so unreal that Sarah and I are expected to go about our day jobs like everything is normal, then come home each evening to continue making emergency escape plans and safeguards for worst case scenarios. Not to mention just trying to process the grief and fear.
Slowly adding my my art here, so enjoy some older pieces ☺️
