Yes, I believe they removed it the ICU before taking me to the step down unit, I think at the same time or before the chest tubes. I have tiny bump from the line, but a gnarly ass scar from the chest tubes below the sternotomy scar.

No, that was never a need. The most help I needed was calling a nurse to be there when I got out of bed to use the restroom myself. After they took out the catheter, that is. By the time my digestive system came back online, I was fine taking care of myself

I fortunately had a couple of months to prepare so I think in my case I was in a good place. I’m sorry you had panic attacks, those are rough.

It’s very much a thing, but a thing you can get through successfully. Not unlike very long race 🏃
