a man stands on the mast of a ship in the middle of the ocean Alt: Captain Jack Sparrow stands at the top of a ship's mast. As the ship sinks below the water, Jack steps from the mast to a dock and begins walking away.

If anyone knows of job opportunities in the Mid-Missouri area...

I'm in the market, as it were.

Throughout history, each iteration of fascism came with its own particularities. Political theorist R. Griffin posits that the one thing they have in common is palingenetic ultranationalism. (Picture : Mussolini giving a speech) Palingenetic ("born again in ancient greek) ultranationalism is a far right narrative that frames the nation as decadent, as having lost its way, as being betrayed by dark elites. To save it, it needs to be destroyed, then reborn. (Picture: Trump giving a speech in front of a MAGA flag) with that goal in mind, an authoritarian power with divisive rhetoric channelsbthe population's anger towards a scapegoat demonized outgroup: migrants, religion, sexual and gender minorities... (picture : three masked ICE agents are handling someone.) Fascism is like a chameleon : it constantly adapts to eras and cultures. It is vital to learn to identify it and call it out. Years Ago, Black Feminists Worked Together to Unmask Twitter Trolls Posing as Women of Color. If Only More People Paid Attention. The fake accounts had handles like @NayNayCantStop, @LatrineWatts, and @CisHate, and bios like β€œQueer + black + angry.”

The Black Feminists Who Saw the Alt-Right Threat Coming

Before Gamergate, before the 2016 election, they launched a campaign against Twitter trolls masquerading as women of color. If only more people had paid attention.

Shocked by Epstein’s birthday book? That culture was everywhere before feminism | Rebecca Solnit Feminism exposed the ubiquity of child abuse, rape, sexual harassment and domestic violence – and helped fight that culture

reposting with alt text because this feels incredibly significant. the right-wing disinfo machine means a lot of the people grieving Charlie Kirk never heard any of the things he said that would have tarnished his brand as Guy Who Just Wants to Have Dialogue Across the Aisle

at their core, trans rights, abortion rights, and vaccine rights are actually all the same issue: they’re all about bodily autonomy, and the willingness to concede any of them puts the others at risk.

Getting real tired of the extruding insert in Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce popping out, sending sauce spilling uncontrollably.

It's to the point that I lost my patience and tossed a partial; I should not have to pry out the insert from the cap and replace it every time I open the bottle.

It is bad enough, having to spend nearly $7 for a loaf of bread that is supposedly safe for my family to eat.

Getting home, opening the package, and finding it already shot through with mold is not adding insult, it's compounding the injury.

screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. β€œyou simply must visit the monsterβ€”i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

I'd been looking for a potential abstract movement system to use, as I expect it would be less time-consuming for online play, and lo and behold I come across Sword World here through Bluesky.

I'm going to give it a test run, next session.

I didn’t know until now that in the original Rosie the Riveter painting, she is crushing a copy of Mein Kampf under her foot. Happy feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, remembering all the women who crush the serpents of Satan under their heel.

Deryni Rising by Katherine Kurtz or How to Suppress Women’a Writing – The FantasyΒ Edition I'm over at Galactic Journey again - for the second time this month and a third article is coming later this month, which must be a new record for me - to talk about Deryni Rising by Katherine Kurtz, a novel which was incredibly influential and yet isn't remembered nearly as well as it should be. For the actual review, head over to Galactic Journey. If you want to know why this novel was so influential - which I obviously couldn't discuss from the 1970 POV of Galactic Journey…

I have had the battle theme from Final Fantasy VII (and various iterations thereof, including the "Tipsy" remix) stuck in my head on loop for the past 4+ days.

I'm not sure this is a complaint, the music is great.

Not sure my life needs that as the soundtrack right now, though.
